Sorry to hijack the thread, but I believe Talkdoc is on to something here.
We have been discussing the issue too much and in too many threads lately; there ought to be a single source of concise information on the subject -- so what you must do is gather together all of your contrasting and conflicting opinions on the matter of Visas for entering China, and publish them. And you should all be willing to stand by this final statement.
I think our position on the matter has been entirely consistent -- that you should not come to this country for employment purposes on anything but a Z Visa, according to Chinese immigration law. It is not relevant that it may be more convenient to do it any other way; there is an L Visa for tourists, an F Visa for businesspeople, and a Z Visa for those seeking employment. English Teachers in China are not usually L and they certainly aren't F, unless they plan on proving the nature of their "business" transactions to the relevant authorities.
The gist of what many of you are saying seems to be that It's OK to come here on whatever Visa is most expedient, everybody does it. But that is hard to be take seriously from anonymous sources, such as we are. Now I am willing to stand by what I say here; I realize it's not a leap to encourage others to follow the law, but you should be willing to do the same -- especially because some of you are telling others it's OK to break it.
It's no skin off your backs if people come here and get messed up because they didn't follow the rules ... but maybe it should be. |
