I was in the same situation, didnt know who to go with, looked at a lot of TEFL programs, got in touch with former students and contacted the professional or academic organizations they belong to and after all the investigative work, I went for EBC. I chose EBC over the two other schools, one was CELTA , the other not. Im glad I chose them, now that Im more or less integrated in the Madrid scene, I have met former EBC students and they are happy that EBC is still there to give them job search help when they want to change language schools , more hours, jobs in other countries , years after theyve done the TEFL program. This is very important to young people like myself who really needs to know that we will have job search help when we need it. When I was researching, a lot of people on Dave ESL forum helped me with suggestions on housing, what to avoid, places to go to, what salaries to look out for, good employers. etc. So Id like to return the favor, so if any of you future EFL teachers have any questions, just pm me. I cant promise to be a real Madrid expert but Ill be more than happy to help in any way I can. Good luck. |

After looking at all the responses about EBC vs CELTA (CLIC), I do have one more specific question not answered that I'm hoping someone can help with. I am in the same boat as far as choosing between the two, but I think I'd rather work in Seville or a smaller city to begin with. I have also heard that EBC really supports its graduates, but has anyone had the experience of EBC really helping a lot with cities outside of Madrid? The CELTA program seems to have a solid reputation, but even though they are in Seville already I haven't got the sense of the job suppot after graduation - or am I wrong about this?
Thanks very much.

Im a grad of EBC and thye do help you with other cities in Spain, Ive been put into contact with Barcelona academies and Im sure Seville would also be on their list if you ask them. The thing though is there will be more jobs in Madrid and Barcelona. Good luck. |

The CELTA in SEville won't help at all with finding work afterwards. They sometimes have calls in from schools in town looking for teachers. They put the notices up on a board and you can go in and look at it. But they don't do anything and although I absolutely loved my CELTA experience and the school and my tutors....they didn't do JACK to help me get work. If I had to do it again, I'd find a school that sets you up right away.....
my 2 cents. |
