Hello Finnegan,
Not to jump down your throat, but it is not just people fresh out of university with only a BA and no work experience who are participants in this forum. Many are trying to get closer to family/friends, some would like to leave the international scene, others are returning to obtain graduate degrees. A forum dedicated to North America provides a place to share ideas on all of these topics, as well as searching for work in the ESL/ESOL field of which there is a great deal considering the immigrant populations in Canada and the U.S. |

"adults wishing to become citizens must also learn English." Really? Would you please inform me where I may find more information validating that statement? Thanks. |

EFL jobs exsist in the USA. As mentioned previously, there are a large number of immigrants, especially in the south. I am an EFL teacher in South Florida. Belive me, there are many people here who do not speak English. There is a demand for ESOL and it is possible for a new teacher to find work.
In reference to learning English as a requirement for citizenship...this is not true. Here in Miami, I teach many students who can barely speak a sentence in English, but who have received USA citizenship. English should be a requirement, unfortunately, it is not. |

Hello all,
Please help me understand why there is a forum for North America or any other jurisdiction where English is the native tongue. It seems like such a waste of time to entertain it as a viable possibility leading to employment, no? |
There was an ESL school in my little podunk town in Montana. I applied and didn't get the job -- so perhaps a forum for those thinking about coming home to do ESL isn't such a bad idea -- seeing how disrupting a career change could be for a 40 year old guy who's done nothing but EFL in Japan for the last 12 years and now has a daughter he wants schooled in the States -- or whatever. |
