If you are going to be in Osaka, particularly at the MM Center, there are quite a few organized teams- softaball, soccer and rugby mostly- put together by some of the instructors. Not sure who they play against, but I think they play or practice most weeks. There are flyers up in the breakroom periodically that provide info on membership.
As for gyms, the selection is endless! One of the more popular one is 6825 yen per month- get a current member to sign you up and you get a better deal on the first month/initiation fee. I have also heard of another that you can get a rate of around 2500/month if you only go from 7-10 in the mornings, so depending on your schedule you can get a good deal.
I love tennis but have been unable to bring myself to pay the 1800/hour court fee at the local courts. I have heard from students that there are free courts somewhere on the south side of Osaka, but I have not searched for them, as it is a bit cold for tennis right now! If anyone knows of any cheap courts in Osaka please share info!!
There are also a couple of nice parks in Osaka that have ample room for a game of football or soccer- one in particular near Osaka-jo. The grass isn't the greatest, but it does exist! |
