| 2500 RMB is plenty to get by on and live a very decent and comfortable life here. That is usually what I spend each month and I think I live pretty well. Lots of DVDs, KFC, nice meals, taxis, weekend trips, etc... |

When I first came to China 3 years ago I was happy to work for 2000 RMB a month in Wuhan doing fairly advanced communications consultancy work for a fiber optics company. I know it was very charitable of me, but I was happy to rebel against the elitist attitude some foriengers have in China. I had come here to live and work in a communist country and money was not on my agenda.
My rent was 200 RMB a month and I was in the higher earnings bracket of the local populace. My fellow workers earned half as much. I was content and happy to stay and live there.
Then a year later I moved to Shenzhen to experience another city and discovered rents were literally ten times higher instead of 200 RMB it was 2000 RMB.
Now my Chinese is improving and I know companies should pay for experienced foriengers, I don't accept anything less than 20,000 RMB a month. I know this conflicts with my original intentions but it's just how I feel now.
I sometimes feel uncomfortable accepting so much as I know I can live on around 5000 in any city quite comfortably, but i'm not 20 years old anymore and you have to think about what I will do in China when I am too old to work.
If you are married and have children with a Chinese partner can you gain any type of Visa relief before you are eligable for the ' been married 5 years type D Visa'? |
