I would have to agree with mr.bojangles and others. Auckland sucks. I lived there for 6 months a few years ago and I hated every second of it. The city looks good on paper though, and I was surprised by how bad it was when I arrived. What a disappointment!
On paper it looks good since it has a mild climate, a scenic harbor, and a moderate sized population, but in reality its a miserable place to live. Especially for a pedestrian lifestyle. If you like to live in a walking cityForget about it! This city is like LA but worse since it has several massive hills and walking anywhere is a total pain in the neck.(mostly up hill for long distances) It is also totally spread out and basically one big suburb
The things that I thought were positives about it turned out to be wrong too... The climate: Humid, muggy and damp. The senic harbor: industrial and full of shipping yards with cranes moving freight. The moderate sized population: rude, unfriendly, paranoid, and suspicious. (I can't even count how many times I went into a store and as I was leaving security asked me if they could search my bag)
Forget about it! There are so many other better places to go to...
You'll find that most people complain about Auckland and very few like itthe one good thing about it though, is that you can easily catch a ferry or boat to somewhere else and get out of it quickly. |

Is is easy to find a good co-ed health club that has a good weight room and some squash courts? That's how I spend a lot of evenings.

No. There are no co-ed (or as we say in English, 'mixed') "health clubs" in Auckland. It is, after all, only a city of 1 million people in an industrialised country. Why would there be "health clubs"? Once people have struggled through the horse traffic to get home, having avoided the attacks from the wild native tribesmen, the children are let out of the Mills and Pits, the wives are released from their rooms and dinner is cooked and the wireless is listened to until it shuts down at 7pm, whereupon everyone goes off to bed.

Have you thought about Australia? You'd fit right in there.

What is the ethnic mix in Auckland? Oh, and do they get a lot of sunshine? Gloom is depressing. |
Okay, I know you're asking, but honestly: have you done _any_ research at _all_?! Even five minutes on google would have brought up all the answers to all your questions.
And if you think Wellington has more sunshine than Auckland then you're in for an interesting surprise.... |

I am from Auckland but have resided for the last ten months in Wellington; while I can confirm the weather is a lot worse in Wellington - I'm glad not to have to put up with Auckland trying to be a poser, stressed, diverse city of 1 million. The place really needs to get over itself! |
