Yeah I think we talked on the phone when I called a few weeks ago to talk to Joan.

As for the record I don't think even the worst school in China would have a problem finding new teachers. You read the boards obviously you know there are tons of sob stories like mine.

I am glad you are not having any trouble there. I told Beth before I left I really hoped she never screwed any one else over like that again. As I said in my original post although mad at the time , I still talked about the nice and accommodating things Beth did. Good things about my co-workers and the Chinese staff.

Beihai is a great city, Beth has been very accommodating, and the other teachers, both FTs and Chinese, have been helpful. Then again, I'm a professional. I plan my lessons and I take teaching seriously.

Beth had a personal problem with me. She didn't want me there so I was gone. Fine it's her school but I still say is was a raw deal. To promise people things and then deny them all after 2 weeks later and then fire them 2 weeks later.

I felt I was professional and upfront about only having a TESOL. She acted with me like having a 6 week TESOL cert was a key to all knowledge teaching.

My current school sure seems to not have these problems with me not being serious as you like to imply and I can tell you I am still the same person. Still professional and serious.

Anyhow I am glad you all are getting along well. I loved the city and wish I could have stayed. Like I say I am happy she is treating everyone so nice as long as future people are happy great. For all I know my posts helped her think twice about doing that again.

Just try to never to do anything that upsets her. Cause she won't tell you and you might end up being shown the door and will still be wondering why.

Anyhow I wish you the best I am am certainly happier in Tianjin. I do miss Beihai though. The pollution in here has given me back my smokers cough and I quit smoking 10 years ago.

good luck kilroy. on a related note. why would anyone quit smoking once in china? thats when it really becomes worthwhile.... at these low low prices you'd be crazy not to smoke.

I apologize in advance, this is probably one of my first really negative responses, but I can no longer resist. Seems as though Kilroy keeps a fairly balanced response, but can't help but feel he thinks he came out smelling like roses, an extremely one-sided story that stinks worse than the foulest of toilets.
I had worked at LTC for quite a long time, and have kept in touch with the school, the teachers, and the students.
I have visited more than once, and his name has come up, in pretty much every area or group that I had mentioned, and never in a positive way. I will not go into detail on the negatives (why he was asked to leave), some were quite personal and should not be broadcast on Dave's, but when it is constantly brought to our attention that he was expected to do more than he could, I thought it was time to add my fifty cents. I was one of the individual's who read your original resume - which stated a hell of a lot more - in regards to experience and capabilities - then you have admitted (which, they unfortunately discovered was not very truthful). And, to go into detail about what you managed to do or not to do during your time, where could one begin, some shocking and quite a lot of purely pathetic behaviors.
I have met quite a few teachers during my time in China, the majority being teachers that took their jobs seriously and treated their students and those around them in a decent manner. And, I have had the misfortune of meeting a few who were, to put in bluntly, an embarrassment, and from what I have heard, you fit the latter. I do hope that you have better success in your current city, and more to the point, to those around you, I wish them the best and hope they can handle your behaviors and the negative attitude that seems to shroud you.
To those who think I was a bit too harsh, it would be hard to apologize. All I can say is, I invested a lot of time and effort into that school and city, and made some great friends, and cannot help but feel protective of what I left behind and to see something like this and continually ignore it (passed on a response long enough) was just too much.

and from what I have heard,

reminded me of a school I visited the other day that had a rather low turnout for classes this year and blamed a western FT who served as a PR person and marketing outlet for the school..he was blamed with the low turnout...
When I went to another school..low and behold ...I met the gentleman who the first school visited had identified as the culprit of their low student enrollment. He was working with some folks who's opinions I respect and they feel he is a great option and that the loosing school had lost a great asset...

Not saying the original poster was or was not worth a sh*t..just that you have qualified your information as that of which you have heard...and I am glad that you stated it as such...although it is hard to have it both ways...see bottom of this post

The OP seems to lack the shroud that you speak of. This posters offerings have been very cordial and seem to speak to the heart of his problem without bashing the school, FTs or Beth who ever...

Nothing to apologize for, cuz, you stated that you didn't know the fella and that you have only heard about his antics .. sounds fare to me but the "can't have it both ways" bit...

but then there is this..

Mmmm well nice to know Beth puts peoples info out their for common consumption. Since you know so much whoever you are I suppose you can tell me what I out and out lied about.

Do I think my Shite doesn't stink, Hell No. Did I do something wrong? Yeah I did, I pissed beth off but she never told me what I did. Maybe I didn't kiss her arse enough or argued when I should have just said Yes Mistress thank you may I have another.

Yes I used some 10 dollar words to spruce things up. Sue me, wrong yeah, ok I am a liar sure I used words like "learning modality principles" and "active learning techniques". The experience I listed, the core of it was true. I have said this before and here we go again. Regardless of what was on there I told Beth repeatedly, time and time again in emails and phone calls that we exchanged that I had NO REAL EXPERIENCE.

When she fired me the only thing she could say to me over and over again when she tried to defend herself on acting unjustly was the fact I have a TESOL cert and 1 a month winter camp, and some private lessons I did in Cebu. So all of this stuff you say I never heard from her or from the other teachers. I had no idea there that everyone there hated me as you make it out. Funny I still exchange txts with a couple of people from there. I'll be sure to ask them. Why did EVERYONE hate me....Wink

Some of your statements though concern me. I would very much like to know what I was accused of.

You seem to know more about me than I do so I would like to know? I am no alter boy esp after living in the Philippines for a year but I would like to know what you are implying I did?

I would also like to know if any of this stems from someone in the Philippines that may have contacted Beth. Word got back to me a month ago from some friends back in the Philippines that a wife beating ex-friend wanted some pay back because I turned my back on his sorry ass.

No one here seems to have any complaints about me being negative. I am certainly not always positive but I have been here for 5 months now.

The school has some problems but most are minor some are major but I try to take it all in strides. I am still working here after all. We have around 1200 students. The students ask quite often to go out and do things as well as the staff.

I do some but mostly I peddle my bike around town.

As for the shroud of negitivity you profess I have, it seems like not having a knife in your back and a lot of broken words keeps it at bay.

You must not feel too protective. You only waited 5 months. If I see someone bash something I care about I jump to the defense but that is just ol negitive me.

Any more recent experiences to share on this school?

Noticed some negative comments on another board from 2010.
