I should add that my friend's apartment is 20 minutes or so by train from Osaka station and a ten minute walk from the station. In Tokyo terms, it'd be like living in Kodaira, a nothing town on a unpopular line. But it's still dirt cheap.
Once you get into the smaller cities you can get a really nice apartment for 50,000 no problem. But, even in Tokyo, if you go outside the centre a bit, you can get a nice 6 mat 1K for 65,000 or so. Perhaps less. I don't know the rents for places like Omiya, Chiba, or Yokohama. Presumably they're cheaper, although I hear that Yokohama isn't really all that much cheaper. |
