| I'm currently in the land of the 'colonel' and I'm not talking about K.F.C. Over the years,(before my time), in this bastion of free speech and moderate thinking we've had three suicides, one bloke who threatened to jump out of a window if he didn't get his passport back and more flash than a Chinese New Year's Party.The truth is that you really can go 'nutty' in the M.E. and many of the rants about working conditions/experiences here are true.I'm with Sara Avalon on this one:he's got 3 months,I'll bet you 10 Dinars. |

I do suspect biffin that a lot of the weirdos you meet in the ME were weird before they arrived. Often people appear weirder in the ME because there is not so much pressure to be normal as nobody really knows what 'normal' is.
And in Thailand, or Cambodia or Spain or Brazil there are plenty of distractions to numb your sense of the weirdness of the other. |

| You must be joking!I've never met as many wasted people as I've met in the M.E.Because in some places booze is illegal they actually drink more.Whether it's flash in Libya or sid in Saudi.And,contrary to popular belief, some of the best smoke you'll ever toke is readily available if you know the right locals,(allegedly of course). As for being 'weird' I think that anyone who steals tea bags from the staffroom and bogroll from the toilets or who,as a westerner starts wearing local garb, is bonkers.I've only seen this phenomenon in the M.E.In addition to this western females out there often become deluded and seriously consider themselves real beauties despite the fact that they often weigh in excess of 220 pounds and have sun gnarled faces that only aborigines could find attractive.The key to staying sane out here is remembering precisely what is normal.Surely? |

Maybe, but of course the problem is that everybody's idea of normal is pretty parochial.
Is it normal to act as if you were still in some rain-swept island off the coast of Europe when you are living thousands of kilometers away.
And how is the westerner who dons local garb any less normal than the Arab who dons western clothes when he goes to the West? |

| An arab who changes out of a thobe and into western dress is probably doing it so as not to stick out on Oxford Street. A western who has chosen to wear a thobe in the ME is doing so because....... |

awww... I bet they would look so cute! <3 But seriously, the only reason why a guy would wear a dishdasha is to ensure their magic sticks don't get over heated. Otherwise, I think prancing around in a dress is too funny.
Kuwait women strut around in either full black garments (nigaab), partial white (or colored) scarf with long flowing clothes, or in a jeweled head scarf and tight fitting tops with long flowing skirts, or they go out all hoochie mamma (tight butt sticking, boob popping, apparel with extensions and highlights, parrot make-up and the most gaudy trend-setter fashion accessories) like there's a party at every sand dune and bakala.
If anything, Kuwait women are taking full advantage of the western/global fashion invasion.  |
