Jizzo T- I'm with you on staying put in the stat of residency for getting the degree. Out of state is really expensive!
In case other are looking, there is a program in Atlanta at Georgia State University (www.gsu.edu) that is a Master's in Education in Reading, Language, Literacy and TESOL. Here's the info from the website and the link follows:
MASTER OF EDUCATION
MAJOR: READING, LANGUAGE, AND LITERCY EDUCATION
Alternative Preparation Program (TEEMS RLL-ESOL)
The M.Ed. major in Reading, Language, and Literacy Education Alternative Preparation Program provides initial teacher preparation in ESOL for individuals holding bachelors degree and who have an interest in English to speakers of other languages in K-12 settings. The course of study meets the requirements for professional certification at the initial level in ESOL and the requirements for a Reading Endorsement.

It is only certification for GA, but if you get certified here, your chosen state to live in may have a reciprocal agreement and you could get a job a little more easily while meeting certification requirements in your new state. |

My wife and I plan to move and work in the US in the near future where my wife will work as a RN. I'm planning to accompany her to the US. I thought that, while I'm there, I could enroll in a certification program to teach ESL in K-12. We haven't decided which state to move to so that isn't a limitation. She's certified in NYS but she could move to certification to any state (with a little paperwork).
Which state would be a good chance for being certified to teach EFL in K-12? How long does this take? What are the requriements? Since I'm Canadian, would a school hire a Canadian that is certified in the US? |
