Unfortunately the Thai economy isn't really booming. A perusal of today's news yields headlines such as:

Stocks stage mild rebound in listless market

Inflation could exceed 4% this year

Potential tourists to get a hard sell to return to Thailand this year "...and help ease pressure on the country's current account."

Thailand moves to boost economy: "Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand's prime minister, moved to bolster his country's faltering economy on Wednesday by abandoning fuel subsidies in the face of high global oil prices."

ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN: Stimulus package a bad idea:Abhisit

CREDIT CARDS: Cash advances reach Bt13 bn
"Credit card holders were advanced cash loans totalling Bt13.1 billion in May, a rise of 20.6 per cent over the previous month, reflecting cardholders increasing need of cash."

BOT orders clamp down on speculation:
"Commercial banks have been ordered to tighten up verification of derivatives transactions after the baht moved irregularly over the past several days, a central bank source said yesterday."

etc., etc. Sad

I am reading a lot that working in Thailand means you won't be able to save money.

How about the Bell salary though? On, say, 44,000 baht, would it be possible to save?

Thanks!

Well it's certainly possible to save on a salary of 44K baht, but don't fool yourself into thinking that's it's a large sum of money. It's only about 1050 USD at today's rate. If you spend about 250/mo. on rent/utilities and about 600/mo. on living well/buying stuff, you could save a couple hundred bucks a month.

Well, I was all ready to come to Thailand and got an offer I could not refuse in Mexico. Mexico was actually my first choice...in that I wanted to increase my spanish language skills. I was holding out for a job that paid well in a non-tourist location and that job popped up. So I took it.

So, yes, Bell was offering 38,000baht and all of the other benefits listed in my first post. They were totally great. We finished the whole process in about two 1/2 weeks. So they were pretty fast and very good at communicating.

I would definately consider working for them if I decided to come to Thailand.

Thanks everyone for your honesty and guidance too.

I was really looking forward to getting some tailored linen suits! Well, it is not my time yet.
