I would be willing to share, Hamish, but after I criticized the tests they broke into my desk and stole them back. I guess that technically they didn't "break in", they just used the key that they swore they didn't have.

I've got a cooperative Chinese teacher friend, I'll see if I can get some copies of the current tests.

BTW, I just checked on muffin with my wife (Chinese) and her translator. I asked her what it said and she immediately pointed to her breast. When I told her that was wrong, she then wanted to argue. "See, right there it says so!" She did say it also gave the correct definition as a secondary. I noticed some time ago that the translators are apparently all using the same data-base as they come up with the same incorrect information including the same non-words.

This is taken directly from the government 2nd year Senior High School text book used in Taiwan (or at least it was being used 3 years ago.)

"Excuse me, _________________ you speak English?

A) do
B) can
C) could
D) will"

I was very pleased to note that many of my students were able to tell that there was more than one correct answer, but Asian educational systems are Asian educational systems.
