Relax, tw, this isn't going to affect you in any way, at all, much less negatively. Once you have your documents in hand, getting the Z visa abroad is fast and easy. If the consulate is in your town, I'd be surprised if it took more than a business day.

tw, I'm not sure what there is in that, that alarms you. When you get to your post to work, you can be sure your employer will take the steps required to get you processed, according to the standards being applied at that time, in that location.

On a personal note, you've gone through a lot to get to this stage, but it seems you're now getting an unnecessary case of the "nerves". You've done it! You've got the job. Soon, you'll be getting your documents to apply for your Z visa, and heading over. It's time to celebrate, not to worry.

Oh lord, this is so bl**dy confusing for me! It all seemed so simple in the past, with getting a Z just being a case of sending the document(s), the teacher getting here, within one day we got the residents permit, then they had a medical, and got their Experts Certificate.

The last two teachers have had their Experts Certificates BEFORE they even arrived in the country, then their Residents Permit, THEN they had a medical, which they have to have before their Z runs out which is 30 days. Now, I just don't know!!

I know I sound like I'm in a panic, but I've worked so hard to get these teachers, put heaps of effort into answering their questions, clearing all the issues up, gave them my teachers' email addresses etc. etc., and now they are ready to fly... even have flights reserved for 15th and 23rd August, and STILL we haven't managed to get their documents to them for their visas! And I'm not sure, if I were one of them, that I'd be too happy about coming here without a Z. I've even written to them stating that if the Jinan FAO has misinterpreted the information that our school will be responsible financially for sending them out of the country to get the right status. I haven't had a reply from them yet.

We still haven't had a definitive answer from Beijing.

I feel for you Deezy. As a practical matter, there's still plenty of time to get the docs to the teachers, once you have them, and for them to get their Z visas, if they don't lose heart in the meantime.

It's got to be a hard sell when incoming FTs expected one procedure to be followed only to learn that "things have changed". In fact there are many avenues which lead to lawful employment in China and I'm optimistic that these teachers will not have problems when they get here, but living with the inevitable ambiguity is harder for some, than others.

Heard briefly from Beijing, will hear more today, but apparently the basics of what I've been told are true, but is 'not as clear cut as that'. As soon as I know I'll write.

Okay, our man in Beijing confirms that this is only the case for Shandong Province it is not a national policy! More as soon as I know. And no website, sorry.

We also have this routine to go through now to get the Residents Permit

The PSB want:

1. a Chinese version of the teachers resume
2. Residents permit application
3. Proof that we have a new teacher
4. 3 copies of pages from the Experts Certificate (wonder how we are going to get this!)
5. Passport
6. Copy of visa
7. Health record, copy and original
8. Proof that the teacher is living in a particular area
9. Then off we go to the main police station, get another form to fill in to apply for the residents permit.
10. Back to the local police station near us to show all the paperwork.

All to be done within 24 hours of a teacher arriving.

so... if in Shandong we can't get an Experts Certificate for a few months, how do we produce one to get a Residents Permit?
It's okay, I don't expect an answer!
