i have been looking at university human resources sites, or the recrutement links thus far so hopefully they dont post them in totally illogical places, thought i wouldnt be surprised!

hi! thanks for all of your help...i've been doing a lot of reading/googling...I have a question about vacataire employment. I see that there is a limit to the number of hours per year (regardless of the number of university gigs...its a total number...). So really, you could only make a small amount doing this yearly as you can only work X amount of hours? I don't suppose there is any way around this like the whole having a primary employer (ie. being under 28 and in cat 3 studies)?

Thanks again....I could really use the help seeing as I came into this at the wrong season for lecteur/MdL employment

Hi!
I am in France and would like to find a post as an MdL or lectrice for next fall (or if something was starting earlier by chance...)
I am having some difficulty navigating the whole university hiring process here in france
ie. which catagory of hiring does this fall under...i know its not tenured work but is it emplois du second degr�, PRAG, ATER, etcetcetc....
some of these searches are now starting and I'm not sure if the MdL/lectrice ones are as well...

A PRAG is a "professeur agr�g�." It's a lifetime job and is only for French nationals. In a pinch, citizens of other European countries could also pass the exams and become PRAG. An ATER is more accesible, but it's a temporary (one-year contract renewable one time) teaching job for doctoral students in the last year of writing their theses. The native-English-speaking ATER I've met are usually studying another field--history, architecture, philosophy, and so on--but are put to work where demand is greatest--teaching pidgin English to students in business, the sciences, and whatnot. The ATER salary is okay, but a little low for Paris, and since you're supposed to be writing your thesis, you're not allowed to teach extra hours--often a significant source of income in French universities.

Try to get on the listserv of the Societe d'anglicistes de l'enseignement superieur. Lots of postings for lecteur jobs, usually just before the start of the school year.

also thanks for the heads up with the SAES list. though, i've followed the steps, i don't think it worked just yet...but hopefully they will start sending me emails!
