It's probably a sin to say so, but I've gotten damn sick of Efes. Can't stand it anymore. In fact, if I never see another pilsner again for the rest of my life, I won't be too sad. I thought I didn't like beer anymore until I went to America, where I discovered I was dead wrong on that one... |

What do reckon about Turkish wine? Recently there has been an improvement. There are some decent wines out there and not too expensive. |

A lot of it is definitely paint thinner or furniture polish, but you're right-- there's been an improvement.
I noticed Guzel Marmara has spruced up its bottle design, though I'd guess the contents are about the same.
There's a new super cheap one called Cumartesi. It can help you remember what day it is, depending on the day. The white, ice cold, isn't half bad for 6-7 million... |

I noticed this too. I was almost tempted to buy a bottle. It's quite trendy, isn't it? |

I over-indulged on white wine in Cappadocia last year. It wasn't nice, but after the second glass, I didn't notice so much anymore.
Wow wow wow! Hangover from H ELL! Took me most of the next day to recover. Nasty.
Outside of Selcuk, in Sirince, they have some nice fruit wines if you're into that. I liked their sour cherry wine. Any other nice wines around? |

Oh I miss a good old pint of bitter, or cider.
When I went to Kapadokia I found some really great reds. Fantastic. |

If you are in Cappadocia and get an opportunity to stop by the Turasan outlet in Urgup do because they've a great selection of wines and they are relative cheap from there.
I find that screw-tops in Turkey are best as wine is rarely stored correctly. Doluca has just started producing 1lt screw-cap bottles to compete with Dikmen/Kavak, and the white (Asma) is not bad at all - light and fruity (and cheap). |

Kp wine is the business. After the first bottle your taste buds are incinerated so it starts to become quite pleasant. At 2.50 a bottle you can't whack it. Polish it off with a six pack of Efes Extra for added hallucinogenic effects.
Also works well when removing flies from the windscreen of my car. |

I would like to retract my statement about Cumartesi wine. I finished the second half of a bottle last night and it was un-yummy, to say the least.
Kavaklidere's out of business? This is horrible, as they were one of the most tolerable.
I'll always be a fan of the 1lt. screw-tops. Tops the charts for Turkish wine drinkability. Looking forward to the Doluca.
As far as the corks, how much does your heart sink when a Turk pulls out a special bottle of wine, saying he's been aging it for 5 or 10 years, and you know even before it's opened that it'll be brownish and not at all unlike vinegar?
Anyone else noticed an increased tolerance for corked wine? Sometimes I'm just too lazy to call the bakkal kid back up to my house to fetch me a different bottle. For me, it pretty much has to be so corked I'm afraid it'll make me sick... |

I was saddened to discover that Cumartesi has no staying power as well. ıt was quite acceptablethe first night, but when I popped it open a day later it was repulsive. I couldnt even cook with it. |

Like I said, I have a high tolerance for icky wine, so sadly I admit I drank it anyway, but I made an icky-face the whole time.
Sometime you can return red wine to tolerability by a) adding lots of sugar (sorry ghost) or b) heating it and dumping in cinnamon, sugar nutmeg....
Yes, I am often desperate, but rarely aresiz. |

Next you'll be saying it is good to add a mixer to a malt a touch of water or ice is ok(it brings out the flavour) But lemonade, coke, etc. Never. |

I learned last night from my friendly neighborhood wine guy that Cumartesi is from the same company as Guzel Marmara. I should have known this when I couldn't find any information about a vinyard on the bottle...
He has another one called 'Diren' that's not half bad...
I forgot about red wine and coke, Baba, thanks! I used to love that... |
