I liked it but I was veeery drunk. Of the stuff that comes on the plate, though, the brain is the hardest to eat. But after, after Hanibal, it's cool too. |

For best food in Turkey you have to get out of Istanbul. For good fresh fish cooked in a simple fashion you have to go to either Izmir, or Ayvalik.
for the best in meat you have to go to Gaziantep. If you go to urfa you have to try Bostan salata and real urfa coffee. If you end up on the black sea then its corn bread with hot mealted kaşer peynir. If you end up in the north east, then Erzurum kadeif dolma is the best sweet in turkey.
The great thing about food in this place is that you really do have a wide range of choice.
Could use a few more curry shops and chippies |

He does have a point though. Is chips with curry sauce a British invention? |

it's taken me a while but I have a gripe about Turkish foods. Salads. Olive oil and lemon isn't really a great dressing, is it? I prefer a nice full fat thousand island dressing- not always available. (revenge for the stalking) |

Don't be sad ImanH. Rather than dribble, just drizzle. Can't do that much harm. |

It's just not bloody fair that's all - first you have to go through the hell of giving up cigs, then you have to go through the hell of losing all the weight you pile on, not to mention the humiliation of trying to find clothes to buy that fit, which in any case were impossible to find
Actually, sorry this is supposed to be a happy thread - so carry on.
At least I can enjoy your enjoyment. |

All the sakatat dishes are fabulous. I brought a MacSween's haggis back from Scotland and my Turkish companions thought it was the best yabani yemek they had ever tasted. Guaranteed smiles all round. I made sure that they were drunk on good whisky, though. Maybe that had something to do with it....... |

Woah, best in the world. I actually made a haggis curry once here. I can't remember why though. I think like you, too many drams and no one could be bothered to go to Gima and that was the only suitable thing in the fridge at the time.
Still off the ciggies ImanH. well done. I had a relaspe. this month though. |

Nine months this week but a pound heavier for every month
Sorry to hear about the relapse - it's tough isn't it?
The patches worked for me, but I think also I was just ready to stop.
I did also try that new 'miracle pill' last year and it literally made me psychotic. I had the most horrendous dreams and used to have to have a cigarette just to calm me down. |

I actually got a hold of a number for an accupuntarist(sp) last week who has had a lot of success. I'll give him a shot next.(no pun intended) |

There's a drug that they've developed which is supposed to work on the psychological aspect of addiction leaving you with more will-power to cope with the physical side (or something) and is supposed to have a pretty high success rate.
They wouldn't prescribe it in the UK unless they could monitor you as it's got pretty nasty side effects but you can buy it over the counter here. It's called Zyban (I think - I'll check and let you know if that's not right).
Seriously though dmb, it really messed with my head. Having said that the effects differ between people, and I am a bit of a nutcase anyway
I would get some medical advice first though. |
