In the meantime, Malaysia continues to take in Indonesian labourers, factory workers and pembantus, either legally or otherwise. If they were to impose a language test, I would imagine that many would flunk out, as the poor devils haven't had a decent chance at school. |
School in what exactly? In language? In Bhs. Malaysia, with the same basic vocabulary and grammar as Bhs. Indonesia? |
Exactly;the same basic grammar. But how many Javanese speakers know the grammar rules of Indonesian? After all, Indonesian is their 2nd language. Also, consider that many of these folk would not have spent more than five years at best at SD.
You and I speak and teach English, but how would the average guy in the streets of our countries go if given a basic English grammar test?
I have to try and tell uni students in Australia what the tenses are, what reported speech is and so on. So pity an SD drop-out who is asked to do a test in Bhs Malay.
I agree with some of the writers above; if a teacher is in the country for one or two years and not seeking residency, then why bother with a language test? China, Japan and others don't do it and they're looking for teachers. |

"I doubt it. Laborers wouldn't have the same test as office workers."
You wanna bet?
Your applying western logic here, and that means the Indo government would do exactly the opposite. |

The example in question was about the Malaysian government, which is quite a bit more logical than its Indonesian counterpart. |
