Dear johNslat:

I say what I mean and I mean what I say. Razz OK. I'm a little weird. I admit it.

Britany, Sharon, Christy and Colette ... eat your hearts out. I have a date with the boys from Saudi.

As for burnout: my comments here were of a general nature. I know you well enough to know that you'll be teaching and contributing to Dave's until hell freezes over. And ... if you come to Russia for a visit, don't forget that hell is sometimes known to do just that.

Have a nice day people Exclamation

Leonie, I have to say, your post cracked me up. I used to love those two grouchy old muppets! Laughing However, I haven't witnessed any grouchiness on the part of Johnslat in the threads, merely some well-crafted sardonic wit--something I and others here appreciate when things get a little 'out of hand' on this forum. Wink As for Scot47, I sincerely doubt that he is the life of any parties, but it does appear from his postings that he is good at what he does and has learned much from his experiences in ESL/EFL. Just don't wish him a Happy Father's Day. Laughing

Capergirl

Thankyou for posting here and thus bringing this thread to the top again. I missed it out first time round.

I am deeply touched to being compared to one of those wonderful wrinklies on "Sesame Street" ! I shall now have a good summer holiday knowing that I have achieved something in this worthless life of EFL drudgery !

Dear keNt,
" until hell freezes over.. . .hell is sometimes known to do just that. "

Not this one here. And many thanks for your comments keNt. The tea and biscuits ( that's British for " cookie " right? So, you can be the " Cookie Monster ", then ) are on me ( scot's too cheap - well he IS " scot " - to treat, anyway ).
Regards,
John

Dear Capergirl,
Hmm, obviously you are a discriminating reader who appreciates the subtlety of my finely-crafted prose ( and my poetry ain't bad, either ). But you know, you and scot47 do have a point. Now that I come to think on it,
I've always liked those two grouchy geezers, as well. Perhaps it's all a misunderstanding and we were actually being complimented.
Regards,
John

If we are going to agree that you and scot47 are the old geezers, then may I be so bold to suggest that Kent is the chef. He's always "cooking" up something interesting on this board. Laughing

Dear Shonai Ben,
Sounds good to me. In fact, I'd call him the " Master Chef ". Which reminds me -sometimes my students here call me, " Doctor ". When I tell them I'm not one, they ask, " Well, what ( should ) we call you, then? "
So, I explain that, since I have a Masters degree, they can just call me, " Master ".
Regards,
John

John:
That reminds of an old joke.
"Well,what should I call you?"
"I don't care,just don't call me late for supper."
Groan.I told you it was old. Wink

Dear John
In your answer to Capergirl, I'm glad that you have come around and now see it in the way that it was truly meant. I really just wanted an answer to my question which Kent provided. In my comparison to the 2 old geezers on the Muppet Show, I was just pointing out that they are "old hands" and "know the ropes" and are now sitting back taking a light hearted view at others and their predicaments.
Initially, I might have taken the wrong impression at some of your posts but as others have pointed out, maybe you are just being "Statler".
Am I forgiven and can I come to tea and (chocolate) biscuits with you and Kent?
best wishes
Leonie

Dear leonie553,
Absolvo te - all is forgiven ( easy to do since there was apparently nothing to forgive anyway ). And you're certainly invited to tea and ( chocolate ) biscuits ( cookies to us Yanks ) with keNt, scot and me - but you have to bring the lemon.
Regards,
John, the nicer old grouch

Dear Leonie553,
There is no such thing as a "career" in ESL. That would imply progress

And here I was expecting this thread to dissolve into an ugly brawl. Have we all gone soft or are the more rational people in the ranks finally having a good influence on the rest of us?

Seriously, it's nice to see something like this handled well...for a change. Tea and bikkies all around!

Sorry, I've been away at a seminar all week and have just noticed this thread.
I concur with John's statements - I wasn't offended by his comments to me and took them as good natured bantering - he's had a dig at me and I've had a go at him but it's all meant to be a bit tongue in cheek and harmless fun.
Probably, as an outsider reading some posts, Leonie has taken some things the wrong way.Sometimes I wonder what people must think of me from some of my posts- I must sound like a crazy woman who talks to a camel.
Did I miss the tea party?

Zachiah,
You're not a crazy woman who talks to a camel???

My entire world has just been shaken. I simply don't know what to believe anymore.

What's next? John and Scot are newbies? Kent has a full head of hair? Irish is Chinese?

It's too early in the morning for revelations like this. Very Happy

Dear zakiah25,
I guess it's time for this charade to end. OK - I'm really a 12 year old girl, living in Peoria. I have a younger brother ( yeeechh, what a twerp ) and I'm in the 7th grade at Ira Murphy Elementary School. My real name is Mary Lou Potell and I want to be an actress when I grow up. Now I suppose you guys are going to get all angry at me, huh?
Regards,
Mary Lou
