Not all teachers are career 'backpackers' (I'm not refering to any person in particular by the way). And for those of us with families and nice flats in Suadiye, it's not so easy to simple up and move on. Is it too much to ask to receive some basic rights, after all this should be a nice profession to work in. |

Well said Alex.
But you know deep down that TEFL is not a profession. I cannot even think of one thing about TEFL that is professional.
If you have some capital then the sensible choice must be to get out. As the EU train rolls on TEFL here will be like the rest of Europe and you will need money to actually be a TEFLer.
I don`t care for the ''nice flat in Suadiye'' comment. You are trying to bait me and I won`t rise to it. You agree to let bygones be bygones. |

I'm sorry, wasn't trying to bait you, just a cheeky joke.
The bygones, are quite certainly, bygones. |

The theives in question are EF - English First, in this instance the accounting dept at EF Suadiye but all head people - Michael H. and Zeynep (we never heard from Bora but suspect he is in on it), agree that we were unreasonable to want our proper pay for September. We were originally at the Suadiye branch (wonderful other than this and Deirdre was great) and then went out to Kelkit which was not wonderful and last we heard still didn't even have textbooks for the students! I can tell you a lot of stories about that place but I won't bother... the issue here is how cheap and dirty EF actually is and we took the jobs with them because all we heard was good stuff!
We enquired about giving our 1month notice and they said they would keep the money for our resident permits from our final pay (about 450 but they weren't clear just how much they would keep since we'd worked a month they may have reduced it a bit) BUT the contract says that they pay for residency etc and the terms of leaving early DO NOT SAY ANYTHING about keeping ANY pay- so anyways we did the only reasonable thing and left over the Bayram once we got our pay.
We are going back to Taiwan where employers pay us for what we work and cab drivers charge us the same as everybody else. |

| The sooner you learn that all the language schools are the same, the better. Hours and hours of comparing English s hit with English s hite and how great English s hite are because they pick you up at the airport is pure bollox. |
