last night, the guy who's been kitting out my flat showed up with another teacher, they took a short list from me of things i needed/wanted, and today delivered most of them. my list had shortened somewhat over the past week or so since i thought that if i get at least 70% of the stuff, i'll be reasonably happy (maybe that was their plan, but i dont think so). the apartment is functional now, but just barely. i'll manage.
this school has only had one foreign teacher before, so they too are relatively clueless when it comes to dealing with foreigners. the biggest problem(s) at this place (many schools perhaps) seem to be:
1. having to ask for permission before spending ANY money.
2. poor chain of communication. too many people getting involved and messages not being replied to in timely fashion, if at all.
i never had to indicate i wouldnt work, but it was coming to that. they've shown me that with some lengthy "prodding" they can move in the right direction. i suppose life here will be a bit easier for the next FT. i've learned a few things also. dont take the apartment (or anything) for granted and next time i'm going to make sure everything is sorted out before signing anything with anyone. valuable lesson learned here.....
thanks for the replies.
