Obvious I know, but how about the combi crush? TEFLers are loaned a combi for the day and have to squeeze as many people as possible into it. Extra points for including gringos with long legs and/or packs, and locals with farm animals or more children than legs to sit them on.

I even have a venure for this - a village just south of Nasca in Peru. Called Huanca. Marks are also given to the must enthusiastic shouting of Huanca Huanca Huanca at random passers-by.

Laughing When I was in Ecuador, I took a bus, I think from Riobamba, back to Cuenca. It passed through the town of Alausi. The Guy was shouting, "Cuenca, Cuenca, a lousey Cuenca". Laughing

Of course brings up the whole "barker" competition. The TEFLer who can accurately reproduce the most different calls wins.

"Arroz con lecheeeeeeeeee. Leche con Arrrrroooooooz."

The Pirop-athon
Male TEFLers must invent pick-up line poems in the local style and use them on local women. Points received for positive reactions. Being ignored doesn't count. Rude gestures or actually chasing someone down the street will disqualify you. Female TEFLers, meanwhile, will be subjected to a barrage of just such pick-up lines expressed by local men. Points are awarded for responding gracefully without actually creating an opening. Fleeing and obscene gestures will result in disqualification.

No-second-helping Endurance Test
TEFLers are placed in a local family barbecue or party/meal, where several courses of food and drink will be served. The goal is to refuse second helpings of as many dishes and alcoholic beverages as possible, without offending the host(ess). Extra points for refusing seconds while actually flattering the host, or for refusing a first serving of any dish without causing permanent offense and eliciting comments on one's mental and/or physical health.

How about this one, inspired by Fox coverage of the English Premier league. (yes, I know it is sad, you come all this way and still spend Saturdays watching the footie from home, but this is the first season in abnout a decade that my team have played anything like decent football!)

TEFLers watch a local match and when someone scores, they have to first do the longest GO-O-O-O-AL shout out they can. IN the meantime, the karaoke machine is being set up and TEFLers have to sing, as out of tune as possible, an impromptu homage to the scorer of the goal. The improvised lyrics must include la-la-la, falsetto and the scorer's name.

For ideas on how this would work, watch LA coverage of the Premier League on Fox. I've even seen Arsenal fans laugh at it!!

My original reason for not posting a photo had to do with a lack of a good digital one (easily fixed, I know) and VERY slow internet speeds in Ecuador. But now, it's turned into a really fun game of- "What will PT come up with next?" Nobody has paid so much attention to me since I was a street performer!

So, what's next, PT? I'm looking forward to it!

Well you asked for it!

How about something grammar-related?

Two part Verb-off

TEFLers will be stressed to the limit by being thrown into a room of beginners with no preparation and asked to effectively teach the following two part verbs.

1) Do in
2) Burn out
3) Beat off
4) Take out
5) Think about/think over

Los cochambrosos(as) merit automatic disqualification.

This one is inspired by an actual "sistema abierto" syllabus for high school.

Teach a lesson on modal verbs, all of 'em, from can right down to had better, in every tense, in 50 minutes, with complete understanding of the differences between I may go and I might go, and you must go and you had better go. Razz

But I don't know what that means!! I'm as pure as the driven white sand on a Great Barrier Reef beach (read other message about not liking snow! Wink )
