If you want to return to Indo at some stage, find employment with another school if EF won't take you. It's unlikely that they'd all blacklist you anyway, as I'm sure some ACs know how dodgy other EF schools can be.

As for immigration, I've got no idea.

i must say that this post has been most amusing. first. there is no central data base for Mclanguage. they are franchaises and dont share info with each other. so there isnt any blacklist. immigration doesnt care about broken contracts as long as the immigration rules have been followed and they only have a blacklist for deportation, such at overstaying and not being able to pay the fine. actually, i have some friends at immigration and they hate the McLanguage schools and love to help teachers get away. Finally, it would cost your school over 1 million rupiah to file a suit with the court. they also must pay the lawyers up from......... usually about 100 million. in indonesia, lawyers charge up front for all fees, from filing to all the appeals for a case. so it is extremely expensive for a school to try and sue u for 5 million for breaking your contract. also, under indonesian law, they cannot sue u for lawyer fees or court costs. so even if they win, they still lose. so if u want, come back tomorrow, sign with the school of your choice, and drive by and wave at your old boss.

Some years ago, I left an EF school six weeks early, to take up another contract, after working for them for almost two years. I was quite open about it, and discussed it with the owner.

It was quite amicable, but they calculated to the last rupiah, the percentage that I owed them, and I was fined a few million Rp. It was in the contract, and they stated that they had to pay out large sums to Immigration and so on, and had to retrieve their money.

I can understand why some teachers do a runner, and I was often tempted to write to EF head office and suggest they run a training course for school owners/directors on how to keep their expatriate staff.

lesson 1: make your staff feel welcome.

lesson 2: Don't leave new staff to the clutches of hungry agents when looking for a house.

lesson 3: if supplying teachers' accomodation, spend $2.00 and get someone to sweep out the dirt and debris and clean the place.

.. and so on and on.

Part of the problem is that these directors often have lots of staff at home such as drivers, maids etc, and seem to think that their teachers come into the same category. That's my feelings, anyway.

lesson 4: if owners do provide housing - make sure they don't house one group of teachers in ex-ceramic shops with no windows in the grotty down-town area and the other group in a luxurious house by comparison up in the cooler hills with tree-lined streets.

Better still, just don't work for these clowns. You wouldn't work for such a cowboy outfit back home so why do it here.
