I don't particularly like Coldplay...and listening to the song over and over again...  having to learn the lyrics probably pushed some useful information out of my brain.
I'm just the type of person that prefers to work on different areas of English...I know it works for a lot of other students and teachers. Just not me.
There's an EFL series in Mexico called Skyline...targetted at beginner to advanced through 5 books, I guess from about 10 years old and up. It uses Jingles, Beatles, and common Xmas songs. I hear it playing down the hall from my TEFL classroom from time to time. |

Why not just get the lyrics off the internet???
I must say that the better my French gets the more I enjoy listening to the radio here. Previously I quite liked some of the French music but now that I get a bit more of what they are singing about I really love some of it, so I can definitely see where those students are coming from.

FYI - Where I lived in SA all your "Classic Rock" was refered to as Oldies, like it or not. Personally, I consider 50s music to be oldies, whic is what my folks listen to.
Anyway, once again I see some of you on here are way to critical and enjoy complaining about SOMETHING!
Give it a rest already. |

Why not just get the lyrics off the internet???

Complain, complain, complain that's all they do, going on and on and on! 
Oldies are generally based on radio airplay from singles, while "classics" use songlists from entire albums for airplay. Its actually an important distinction for radio and how music is (or was)promoted in America. |

I use music quite often and it's well received. I remember them saying to me "teacher, we really like music but can we please listen to something other than the beatles." (This was after about the 15th beatles record I'd done with them)  .
I heard a couple of suggestions from over my shoulder - robbie williams - justin timberlake  .
So the next day I played purle haze by hendrix, they weren't keen and never complained again
But yeah, the beatles works great, like one of the posters above said, simple lyrics and a story. I've also used Johnny Cash and The Smiths |
