When I last taught in Mexico, the school I worked at had a copy of a book of picture stories.
I believe the title was, "Picture Stories for ESL Students" or something like that. The version we has was a copy of a copy and I have never seen the original.
I have never been able to find it again either, so perhaps I don't have the title quite right.
I liked it because the students seemed to enjoy it. Each unit was centered around a comic strip with a funny punch line ending. As a text, it wasn't all that great, but as a suppliment to the class, it was just what the Doctor ordered. Anyway, if you can find it there it might be helpful to you.
