Hey, Jen, where in Canada does your sister live? I'm asking because I'm going to be sending money home to my sister in Owen Sound, Ontario, and I was going to do this via Western Union. Now, I'm not so sure....
...and what DID happen to the money?
Cheers! |

So, let me get this straight.
In the PRC, you can't walk into a bank - even a big brach of a big bank - and send money overseas. No electronic transfers. No money orders.
I haven't looked into this with a great deal of scrutiny yet - as doing so would mean kidnapping/coercing someone (who understands what I want to do) into coming with me (interpreter/ripoff protection) and wandering about all day. I have a sinking feeling even if I did find one where it was "possible," the people working there wouldn't know how to do it. Am I wrong?
I can't use Western Union as they don't have an office where the money needs to go (small town in Canada.)
Any more thoughts on this? |

I use Paypal. It's electronic, fast, and easy. |

Basically, your employer needs to join and so do you. Your employer then sends money to your Paypal account and you can then send it to your bank or use your debit card to get it out.
You need to provide your bank number and information. They then send a little money to that account that you gave them. You call your bank and find out how much money you received. Then you enter it in on the paypal website and your registered. You'll need to upgrade your account, for free, to send money back home.
Check with your bank first to see if they accept Paypal.
Mine didn't.
But don't worry, you can get a Paypal debit card, for free. They send it to your permanent address. YOu need to confirm the number again on the Paypal website. I sent it to my parents and now they can take out money. It's about $2 per transaction and a max of $300 can be taken out each day.
Go to http://www.paypal.com
The site then changes to https://www.paypal.com, the s means that it's a secure site.
Hope this helps, there's tons of info on the site. |
