As I've said many times in the past, if you think 10 million a month is bad, and usually with a house supplied, try Central Java, where a house is not suppplied, and you'd be lucky to get more than 4 million. You can guess which chain of schools I'm referring to, I'm sure. |

Year-over-year inflation was 18% for February. I hope people will start getting real about raising salaries. |

Here's what one school in Bandung was willing to offer me:
The package we can offer is as follows:
- a salary of 15,000,000 Rupiah per month after tax and expenses
- a furnished one-bedroom apartment
- fully paid annual return airfares from the US
- fully paid travel/medical insurance
- a car with a driver for transport to/from school
- all expenses paid for in relation to work permits and visa applications |

If that's a Nat Plus school terms and conditions are fine - if it's an International then the headline salary is on the low side. If it's an EF, look out of the window now and watch those little pink pigs whirling and diving. |

The school's name has the word "International" in it but the curriculum is a "national plus" curriculum. I'm going there for about a month from mid-May to mid-June to see if I would want to teach children or if I would really prefer to teach adults. |

Interesting, National Plus schools generally pay $US, not Rupiah. |

I tried to pass myself off as a Lord but fell flat on my face when EF bawled at my salary expectations.
Obviously a titular forename helps with the old salary negotiations nowadays in Indo. |

Chancellor is my first name but I don't think it makes any difference. Concerning the job in question, this is what they offered me without me even asking about salary. I haven't decided whether I want to take the job and I'll have a better idea of what I want to do after spending about a month there mid-May to mid-June.
No matter what teaching position I might be able to obtain, it'll be a significant pay cut compared to what I'm making in my present (non-teacher) job. |

Why would they do that? Would it not be better, if one is going to live on the local economy, to be paid in the local currency due to the fluctuations in the exchange rate? When I was in the military stationed in Japan, I remember that the value of my American dollar in the Japanese economy changed with the yen rate; sometimes it was to my advantage and sometimes not. |
