I work for GEOS currently. It's not bad. The socializing thing is outdated or just somebody's joke. You won't make overtime unless you're in a very large urban school, and even then, you won't want to.
I used to enjoy working overtime at other jobs I've had from time to time (outside of Japan). Sometimes I needed the money and it was no sweat. Here, I just want to walk out of the door. I don't hate it or anything, and actually dig it most of the time. But for some reason--and despite my best efforts it's not a simmering social life--I have just as much stamina for GEOS and the whole eikawa thing to make it through nine hours and that's it, out the door. Peace. See ya. 12-9 bookended by a few minutes beforehand and afterwards and that's enough for me. Bring me the weekend. Whatever. |

I remember feeling pretty much the same as mrjohndub. I never came near the overtime threshold and yet I was always way too tired at the end of the day to even think about taking on additional classes. You'd probably be looking at 7-8 classes a day, every day, in order to qualify. It would just burn you out, which is why very few people get it and those who do wish they didn't.
I've heard that the bonuses have gotten a bit stingier since my day. I remember getting a 16,000 yen bonus for one student signing up once. Now it sounds like you never get anywhere near that much. |
