My monthly salary is approximately 750-800 beers per month (a 500ml Efes in an average bar in central Istanbul).
My rent (excluding utilities) for a 3 bdrm centrally located cosy flat in a vaguely dodgy area is approx 200 beers. Utilities (electricity, water, satellite tv, phone, heating in winter) are between 30 beers and 70 beers (in winter it is very very expensive). |

Many local Chinese beers are quite nice. The really good ones are Germanic in quality (and, historically speaking, actually German).
The two RMB bottles I mentioned include really good ones. Lwen (translated from the Chinese for "lion" evidently) is the one I usually have, but if my shop is out, I'm happy with Hapi (short for "Harbin Pi Jiu," Harbin Beer), which is just as cheap in Dalian.
For those of you not in China, one of these 610ml bottles costs the rough equivalent of 25 US cents. Yeah, pretty cheap. And GOOD. |

| Shouldn't the poll include 'less than 1' for those teaching in London? |

Those in London won't be reading the poll, as they are unable to afford internet access, and spend their free time selling the Big Issue...
I lived in London for several years. It was fun, but it was enough.

| For London you should change the question to 'How many hours do you have to teach to buy a beer'!!! |

Hmm, it does make a bit of a difference in Japan if you're talking beer at the supermarket or at the bar and also imported versus domestic. For me, I can buy about 20-30 beers on my hourly wages at the supermarket, at the bar for domestic about 4-6, imported runs a costly 3-4 depending if it is a pint or half pint.
Rent is hard to measure, though average in Tokyo will set you back a good 600 for domestic ones at the supermarket! |

The most affluent expat worker, I ever drank with in a bar 5 years ago here in China, was earning 75 beers an hour. He was a ships engineer. I was earning a quarter of that and thought myself very lucky. Drinking at home: he was getting the rate 375 beers per hour.
Unfortunately my drinking days are over as I get only 4 beers per hour now (at bar prices)!
BUT when I go to some local restaurants the beer is FREE (well sort of, as it is costed into the food) |
