| Off-topic, but Sweetsee is your quote at the bottom from a Nico song? I think I know it. |
Yes Nico did a nice version of this song, 'These Days', that was used quite well by Wes Anderson in the film 'The Royal Tenenbaums' in the scene where Margot gets off the Green Line bus to meet Richie when he arrives back in New York.
But actually the song was written by Jackson Browne when he was 16 years old. He worked on Nico's 'Chelsea Girls' album [1967] on which the song appears. Apparently he also had a brief relationship with her. Originally it was recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1966 while Browne was a member, but not released until 1968 on the third album 'Rare Junk'. Browne did his own version a few years later on his second album "For Everyman" [1973]. |

Hi Guest,
Disappointed?
Awesome advice, as usual...thanks man.
Hi DMB,
Sucking=crap...right.
Hi Sigmoid,
Very interesting, never knew that. Are you a big fan of Nico, or perhaps Jackson Browne? Used to see him on the beach up at the Ranch, with Darryl, and at the Bowl.
Hi SIO,
Guess the jokes on me, thanks. And thanks to you too Frank, for your contribution. |

Hey Sweetsee, I dont think anyone was laughing at you, it was a very interesting thread. SIO just tickled me with his comment. My gut reaction would have been talk to the DOS, but with hindsight, the truth will out as they say, take care

according to www.etymonline.com:
Slang sense of "be contemptible" first attested 1971 (the underlying notion is of fellatio). Suck eggs is from 1906. Suck hind tit "be inferior" is Amer.Eng. slang first recorded 1940.
I would think something "sucking" should be a great, wonderful thing!
English is so strange.  |
