Not in St Louis, I know of someone (a while ago) whose Employer told him to acquire a fake degree. This person was young, was an excellent teacher, and didn't have employment opportunities back home. This person went on to get qualifications, so don't be too judgemental (lest you be judged!)
After being through a divorce where both true and false hurtful things were said by us to other people...
I try not to say negative things about other people, even truthful things, unless asked directly, for my opinion. Of course, I don't always live up to this ideal, but I'm trying. |

In a word, yes. The jefa would have terminated this person's employment within a couple of weeks of starting if it had been possible.
Ah well, this person's last day was last Wednesday, so I won't have to put up with his antics any more. |

Hey I am quite alright with that. There are many teachers out there with fake papers. It's just not good and instead of passing judgement on them, I only suggest that they get themselves real qualifications. It is easy to do if you put your mind to it. And it opens many doors that would otherwise be closed.
I can also tell you a case about a school that hired a teacher and printed up a fake degree to get him a work permit(without his knowledge). After working for them for 2 years, he had a falling out with the management and left. The school reported him to the police for having a fake degree and he actually had to skip the country after being relased on bail. (Talking about Thailand, not Mexico) |

| Frankly, I suspect getting a 'fake' degree apostilled/legalized might not be that difficult. All the secretary of state/consulate does is check that that educational institute does indeed exist legally; I don't believe they actually take any steps to determine whether or not the institute is certified or just a diploma mill. |

The Massachusetts office where I got my diploma apostilled told me not only was the school, but the individual signatures were checked (I think at least one had to have powers of notary?) Maybe the secretary was just playing Minesweeper in her cubicle, but something took her a long time to finish before handing back the documents.
OK, go ahead and judge fake degree holders. I suppose they're depressing wages. I just felt bad for this one particular guy- maybe I'm just a sucker. |

I'd be rather upset if I applied for a job with my hard-earned, expensive, legitimate MA degree only to find out that someone else got the job because he had higher (but fake) credentials. That guy would certainly be depressing my wages.
If I paid for someone's services -- foreign language teacher, mechanic, doctor, dentist, architect, lawyer, etc. -- and later found out that the person didn't have the credentials he claimed to have had, I'd feel that I had been duped. I guess I'm just funny that way. |
