| What I notice is that mods that double as posters to their own forums monopolise certain forums and they delete what they want to delete. They also ban posters arbitrarily. |
Hang on. There are mods here who post. Chris Rose in HK is one. He's fair and has respect. Weren't you briefly a mod here? Why did you quit?
For the rest, I assume [and the things they don't pick up would suggest this is the case] that they don't have the country specific knowledge to add to the dialogue.
As for your second sentence, I nearly choked. The reason these " other forums" exist is precisely that!
The newspaper analogy is childish. Please treat your readers with more respect Roger, while you still have some for yourself. |

I also found the newspaper analogy to be a bit silly. I can't imagine too many forum operators writing to themselves very often. Annyway, I did as you suggested, Roger and checked a few names onother forums. You are listed as a member at Raouls Saloon. I skimmed through a few posts, and noticed you didn't get trashed over there the way you get trashed here. Can you explain this? It's very strange to me that someone would continue to post on a forum where he gets insulted every time he posts.....unless there's a touch of the masochist there. I also noticed that there are no locked threads there.
CTF isn't banned in China..they apparently switched to another URL. I forgot whether you're listed there as well. I think so. There are others around who list on other forums too. Why be secretive about it? Is the "forum competition" so fierce?
I apologise if I sound naive about all this..I rarely used the Internet at home..so this is basically new and interesting to me here..(more time on my hands, I suppose) |

My reply to Super Mario's comment:
I didn't know Chris Rose is a mod, full stop! If he is, then he is a wise guy who keeps out of controversies! That's definitely not the case with some others I know to be mods in their forums.
As for myself, you are misinformed (not the first time you opined on something related to me). I have NEVER been a mod here; I was nominated some time ago, together with glenski of Japan; he declined, and my nomination generated some furious responses from certain posters. Let me add that I never felt comfortable being publicly traded as a moderator! Who would?
And to Petergunn:
You can be a member in a dozen different forums under different monikers, don't you know??? But yes, I am one of the rare few who prefer their trademark name over pseudonyms and akas. I would really feel bad if I had to enter one forum under one name and its competitor under a different one.
That's not to say I don't know some people out there that do exactly this. Some also have multiple identities, and if they have that they usually have darker motivations for posting than the rest of us. Some posters are not teachers at all yet involved in some of the most heated quarrels. Some have certain political agendas and no interest in TEFLing.
You hinted that I had no flame wars over at Raoul's; that's true but some of those guys mentioned above have infiltrated that forum as well and are lurking there. Just scrutinise their members' list and check how many posts certain members haven't posted... Some of these posters commented bitterly on me in yet another forum where I only visited from time to time.
I once had a friend who was a mod herself, and she told me a few things about those posters too.
Currently I am dealing with someone I believe I know who has tried - unsuccessfully - to denounce me to some folks around me with patently wrong claims. He or she - gender is unclear because that person operates under ostentatiously female usernames while her or his e-mail header carries a male first name! - has obviously pilfered some data from publicly accessible websites, and added his or her own "intelligence".
So in short, anonymity is a must for anyone posting here. |

Which of course is why you published the URL of the Yangshuo Chinese language school you're a partner in on Daves. When I opened it, there was a photo of you with your name. Some anonymity.

Given that you post sometimes on the HK board, and his name is clearly there as a moderator...............

No, I merely asked a question [

| Well, foolishly I just, attempted, to peruse the cafe for some lesson ideas, etc. I told my self I would never go there again after asking for others opinion re: certain cities when I was making my decision to come here. I was then told by some anal retentive, blowhard name "Roger" [image] who seems to make it his life's goal to dish out what, I'm sure he thinks, was very insightful and wise advice: he told me that one's view/ opinion of a place depends on the person.. [image] ..ya, no POO!!! And he told me to "Do myself a favor and purchase a travel book" to learn more about the place. Wow, what a novel idea, again... [image] . Anyway, I gave the place another try today and read a post by a guy looking for advice/ or suggestions for a good Forum, as he was planning to come to China to teach. Well he made the dreaded mistake of having a typo in his post, and the 3-4 replies didn't offer advice but critized his spelling. What the M'kay???!!! He also asked for a good forum. People said that Raoul's was just filled with "rowdy" , "disgruntled" people who have been banned from Dave's. And that is probably why Raoul's is called the saloon and not a cafe' |

HI
Thanks for the tip. I've been to the web site as I was getting a little ticked off at the negativity on Dave's !! I'll keep a closer eye on it though and see what I come up with. |
Are you getting the idea, or will this post, and poster, go the way of others that don't agree with The Roger Code? |

khmerhit. Who is that delicious avatar you have?
Scanning again at your suggestion, Roger, I found hundreds od "zeros" among the members here. Those who have joined and never posted. This, it seems is normal, unless, as you say, they are only lurkers waiting to throw poisoned darts. Is this why you haven't posted at The Saloon since last year? Heaven knows, you cop darts all the time here, but it's strange that you didn't over there. It's a strange world, that of the "forum". I am slowly finding my way around, and one day I will figger out how to post an avatar. I will have to look for a cute Chinese chick, to compete with Khmerhit.
Supermario, how often do people get banned from forums, and what is the main reason?....not for throwing darts, surely! Do you really think this thread will get deteted? |
