I got something printed at the back of my passport that amends my name to my married name. I got this done in the US after I got married.
Now every time I get a visa in China it is under the maiden name. They just dont get it that I have changed my name.
On a related note, this has not caused any problems for me. |

| THAT WAS IN 2003, Killjoy says they no longer do ammendments. If that's true, You might want to wait until your passport expires rather than shell out for a new one now! |
It is the new RFID passports that are being issued. That means no more amendments in the passport. You have to get a new one. The RFID chip is embedded in the passport so if the info changes in it then the RFID chip needs to be changed and the only way to change it is to issue a whole new passport. And since they don't want treat different passport differently, they have the new rule.
Only way to avoid it is to get the amendment done within 1 year of issue? Anyways if you do that then it is a new passport, but still free. I had read that if you ask for the married name change within 1 year of the marriage then you are ok, but looking at the state department website, it just aint so. Sucks big time. |
