Thanks for all your replies. I didn't think the comparison was as bad as what was being made out on other sites.
I didn't include going out in my equations purely for the fact that it's a changeable amount, unlike your rent which is fixed. Obviously, the more you go out, the less you have, the more expensive places you choose to go to, the more it'll cost you, etc...
Just gotta hope now that I get located somewhere rural-ish.
ps. Squid is one British way of saying Quid, which is just a Pound(). |

I would say utility costs are usually higher here, especially electricity. Phone bills are similiar, something akin to England where there are no local calls, you always pay if you called someone.
That place in Ikebukuro sounds like a standard 1k (1 bedroom, 1 kitchen), no great bargain for its size, though your location is good. Did you have to pay key money too, which would also inflate the cost of your rent? |
Yes 75,000 is pretty standard, although like I said quality veries greatly at that price in central Tokyo, that's 350 pounds a months. A similair place to mine in or around central London will set you back a the very least 400 pounds a month, if not 600 pounds a month (120,000 yen). And if you're thinking of living anywhere near the west end or Chelsea then you can quadruple that at least!
Yes I paid key money but was happy to, considering the great location, the fact that the apartment was very modern and that the rent was reasonable. |

HAHA I have a japanese g/f... I am happy to be the bunk
Yea im aware of the room size. Our apartment in San Francisco was simular size. Were not the people that stay home much. We always go out. We are used to being close. I do wish for a private shower, but this is a good starter apartment. No Key, decent deposit, fixed utilities, cheap rent and NO contract. No its not the 200 shrimp rent, but not bad for tokyo. We'll probably get a larger apartment once i get a job and such, but since Im living on savings and such for now then this will do nicely. It has a tv, vcr, high speed internet and fridge in room. Public kitchen, and restrooms. One place has coin showers.. which i think is funny.. me running down the hall naked to get some more coins to wash the shampoo out.. or god forbid... droping a handful of coin. ahhh |
