Just to clarify a tad. . . when he said she doesn't want to lose face or look bad, he was referring to the fact that she doesn't want to look bad to me. She assures me I'll make enough money, if I go there and don't, she'll look bad or lose face in my eyes.
Having said that, I think I might have to agree with you, Abu.
Thanks again. |

Dear Sir,
you will be working part time on a student visa making between 150,000-180,000 yen a month. Thats less than $1800 a month supporting two people. How do you expect to support two people pay school fees, study, on half the salary of a full time employee?
You can not even support one person on that and a 300,000 yen salary is not enough for a couple on the JET program. and that is full time and twice the salary.
I dont want to second guess you but most of the people on here are full time language teachers and know what language teachers are making at an average language school, part time and full time. An assurance is not a guarantee. What will you do if she is wrong or her numbers are out?
I would be very wary of believing Japanese peoples promises about what they think foreign teachers can earn here, when most Japanese have absolutely no idea what you can fetch on the open market. |

Dog, I understand what you say. I am going to reject the offer from the school and go the way I had originally intended, via a working visa and a secure job. If that doesn't happen this year, than I'll just have to wait (though, I do hope it does happen).
I was considering the student route because I figured she knew what she was talking about and knew my situation. However, something just never gelled with the whole idea, so I figured I'd ask in order to get some straightforward, non-Japanese styled answers. I was uncertain if it was a warranted bad vibe or if I was just having last minute jitters. So, there you have it, really. |

| PS. If anybody knows of any good positions that are/become available and you feel like helping out your fellow man, please feel free. Thanks. |
