Sorry that this thread took a turn.
In labour talk, by the way, a scab is someone who crosses a pick line to replace a striking or locked out worker.
A rat is someone who works in the interests of management.
Beavo it sounds like with your friend in Kanagawa and your father willing to help you out, you will do well. |

If u take the flexi position at Nova they will sort u out with apartment. The flexi postion usually involves working 5 days a week from 5pm to 9pm. Occassionally they will change ur hours or ask for overtime. It's a pretty cushy number and not starting untill 5 makes it easy to work elsewhere part time. Especially as u will have a holiday visa and an apartment as a base if u want private students.
A girl from my school was doing the same thing working in a kindergarten during the day and Nova at night. Then her boyfriend came out from Oz and they got a new apartment and he was able to find work too.
The Nova job is not great but it is convenient, and piss easy too. Go that route and if u really hate it u can change once u sort urself out.
good luck |

A friend of mine, who is a current Nova student tells me that, at least in her school in Tokyo, Nova are exceedingly desperate for teachers, to the point they had to put 4 students a class in every class, and "created" classes with mixed level 2, 3 and 4 students. For the uninformed, level 1 = native English speaker. Note here that I gather they've changed from numbers to letters in their system.
My tips: Part-time with Nova in a school that is as far from the centre of the city as possible would be ok. Just hope that the senior-ranked teachers in your school are ok people. |

| not just desparate in tokyo. everywhere. company can't afford to employ as many teachers as it needs. if you're seeing a downward spiral here, you're not the only one. |
