Well, it IS a rejection in a way because I did get an email from them conrfirming that they received my application and that they will be in touch "within two weeks" if I've been invited to a group session. I sent my application two weeks ago (March 9th) and judging my what people say on here, AEON is pretty on the ball with getting back to them. One of the other posters said they heard back from them in six days. |
You say you SENT your application on March 9th. Today is two weeks exactly from the day you sent it but what day did they receive it?
Also, don't go by the timeline of another poster if that poster was in a different hiring office or sent their application at a different time. The different hiring offices may just take longer than others. |

I guess I didn't quite make myself clear. I sent in my application on March 9th and got a confirmation email from AEON on the same day-just hours after I sent it in actually. I have another thread on here about this titled 'I finally did it!'. |

I just called AEON and they confirmed the obvious. That if I don't hear from them within two weeks, my application was unsuccessful. Got it right from the recruiter's mouth. I told her who I was and she looked it up and confirmed that an email had been sent to me exactly two weeks ago which I received. I asked her if she could give general reasons as to why an application may have been denied and she said that it was "against company policy" to give out that kind of information. What a fuckin' waste of time. So once again, I ask this question as no one really answered it for me: HOW NORMAL IS IT FOR SOMEONE TO NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE GROUP INTERVIEW/INFO. SESSION? It can't be too common, I think. What do you think? |

Jazz, I understand your frustration, but I think it's time to let it go and focus in on the other schools. Yes, AEON and other eikaiwas often do not invite applicants for an interview. It can be for a variety of reasons. Examples: A large pool of more suitable candidates, something they saw in your resume or essay that was a red flag, etc.. Sometimes it ends up being bad luck. Anyway, it sounds like you are inflexible about the weekend schedule. If you can't get around that, you might want to rethink coming to Japan. One of the things you'll notice if you come here is the lack of flexibility to their established rules. Living in Japan requires quite a bit of apaptability for foreigners. |

I'm NOT inflexible about working weekends even though I may have made it sound like that. All I said is I like the idea of getting weekends off, is that wrong? Who doesn't have that preference?! And I also NEVER said I'm not applying to other schools. I have to, need to cover my back, know what I mean? I was just mad that I wasn't even given a chance to prove myself. Sure, I would've been pissed if I took it further and got rejected at that point, but at least I knew I tried. |

This 'no experience' required business...wonder if it's just a load 'o crock. I may not come with a lot of experience, but I sure as hell have some experience even if it's not teaching in the traditional sense. *beep*. And I wish I didn't get beeped everytime I need to cuss. Like c'mon, I need to get it off my chest. It's a stress reliever. Another good stress reliever would just be to throw things around and vandalize my place, but unfortunately, it's messy enough as it is. And I really don't want to break anything...Oh and just in case anyone feels like judging me based on this post and the ones before, I have this to say: You DON'T know me and what I've been through in my life, how I've had to struggle and work harder than others to prove myself so don't even start. I wrote the fuckin' book on failure so I know all about it. |

Jazz, a lot of us come here to rant. And I think that's good. We're sharing information along the way. Ranting is part of what this forum is made for. I think of this place almost as a support group.
On the otherhand, i think some of your yammering and questions are bordering on the ridiculous. Your last defensive tirade will inevitably cause some members to wonder about you, if not judge. Anyway, it doesn't matter if they do, does it? We know you're applying to other schools, so focus in on them. You seem to be persevering, so use that to your advantage. Take a deep breath, relax, and gambatene! |

The people on this board are not the people you have to convince. If you feel that people are judging then why is that? I don't think anything said on that board should lead you to think that but that thought popped into your head mid-rant.
When you write an application or an essay to a company for employment then the hard truth is that they are judging you by what you write.
My only suggestion is that what you put in your application and essay doesn't come across as too demanding or defensive, these companies get thousand of applicants and the ones they want are the ones who don't look like they will rock the boat. |

Agreed @ support group. Sometimes it's easier to disclose things to people who you don't know at all (esp. on a forum) than to your own friends and acquaintances. As for the "yammering and questions", if people don't like it, they have the choice not to read it. Just move right along................ |

Yes, I know they are judging me by what I write, whether I like it or not. As for the application and essay, at least for AEON, which is the only one that's gone out so far, nothing in it comes across as "too demanding or defensive". I talked about my reasons for wanting to go to Japan, why I want to teach English, why I want to work for them (what I like about their company), my transferable skills, the type I've teaching/educating I've done that is NOT listed on my resume and what I've learned from all of my experiences. |
