Florizall,

Despite the "conversion to Mormonism" crack, Interac is a good company to get a foot in the door with. You'll end up as an ALT teaching at public schools. It's definitely a good chance to learn how the public school system works here. The biggest problem with Interac is that you have to pay all of your own start-up costs: rent, key money, airline ticket, etc...
And, if it seems as if many of the people who are on this discussion board are somewhat jaded, just remember that the people who are really having a blast here are too busy to spend time writing comments like these. I'm married so I'm not allowed to have too much fun anymore. Guess I'll be spending a lot more time on this disscussion forum. Wink

Luckyloser:

Thanks for the feedback! Interac may be along the lines of what I'm looking for afterall- a step into Japan where I can then further my job search by being able to go to face-to-face interviews. I may be sharing a living space with friends of mine who are currently living in Japan and are Japanese citizens- so living accomodations may not be a problem.

Thanks!

The biggest problem with Interac isn't that you have to pay all your own start up costs, it's that Interac is breaking almost every labor and safety law that's on the books. The company shouldn't exist. All ALTs should be working directly for school boards, not pimped out by a illegal labor supply service. If Interac ALTs were working directly, they'd be making 30% to 50% more than they are now and they would have job security.
