To the OP:
I'm guessing you are working for a company of some sort either directly or through a school. My advice would be to speak to their leader. This person will not be one of your students, but he is the one who has decided this group of individuals need "Chinglish erm English lessons". Now if you don't know who this is, turn it into a lesson "Describe your workmates, leaders etc..." and trick them into telling you.
Now what you need to do is ask this person why he would like them to learn English, what he hopes to accomplish and what their company does. Use this info to better tailor your classes for the students, on a level they know about and deal with everyday. You could also have your students translate documents, advertisements, forms etc, from Chinese to English. Again get these from their leader who should be more willing to help you.
It may also help your teaching and your students attitudes improve if they come to realise that you are friendly with their supervisors. Then again it might not. |
