Do you try to teach children the differences between british and american English? I teach the differences to adults like standing in line as opposed to queueing. But I find it impossible to teach children since they won't understand the difference.

With children I'll usually hold up 2 fingers along with a flashcard and teach them that there are two words.

For example first I'll teach them pants, since it's an American book, and then trousers.

For the most part from then on I'll use and drill the word from the book, but every now and then when I'm showing them the flashcards at the beginning of the lesson I'll go over both, just so that they're aware of it.

Here is something on the subject that should help Slodziak. i can't help with the other varieties of English. Can anyone offer a similar example from elsewhere in the world?
