Sorry senza, just being picky, bit I really dont get this everything happens for a reason line...........As you wrote itperhaps you could ingulge me:)..What does it mean? It sounds that everything is for the good, that there is purpose behind what happens to us. Intention?.....
Doctor smiling to 6 year old child screaming in agony as cancer takes it's grip, "don't worry child, everything happens for a reason. It was intended that you suffer this way. Here have a lolly"
Please feel free to ignore my rant, just a pet peeve of mine........can't think of a way to tie it into a TEFL question either.Smile

Take things out of context much? I think he was just being positive about the whole situation regarding the OP's Nova rejection - or maybe I read into things too much.

The only reason(s) I can think of why a university graduate would fail an interview for a job they perhaps consider to be a pushover and 'easy':

Lack of preparation for interview
Talk too much in the interview
Sound TOO professional and have CELTA bulging out your veins.
Be too demanding about location etc
Carry too much 'baggage'
untidy dress sense or wrong dress, too casual etc
Complacency and arrogance
assume they have nothing better to do than give you a job

Job hunting is about playing the odds, the more you play the better your chances will be. More noes get you more yeses and you dont sweat about why you got the noes except to learn about what you can do better next time. People here get too hung up on why the big 4 companies dare say no to them and rationalise their failures.

If Nova recruiter thinks (for whatever reason(s)) you'll bail out of your contract early, you're not getting the job.

If the recruiter thinks (for whatever reason(s)) you'll end up being a "sour apple" who bit*hes about students, the company, and Japan and everything Japanese in general, you're not getting the job.

If the recruiter thinks you're either underconfident or arrogant (will lack in the praise-giving department), you're not getting the job.

The praises for teachers Nova branch managers liked to hear from students included: He/she is:
yasashii -- kind, easy going, down-to-earth
omoshiroi -- funny, entertaining
kakkou ii -- cool, good looking
wakariyasui -- easy to understand

There are lots of reasons for a company not to give an overseas job to someone even if they seem like the ideal candidate and are 100% genki during the interview. It's best to think about why they should hire you and plan accordingly.

I was rejected by NOVA a few years ago but was hired by AEON last year so it definitely happens, don't give up hope. As others have said, once you've been through the interview process once it really helps you to know what to expect, what questions to ask and how to come across in a manner that makes them want to hire you. Good Luck!

I too got rejected by NOVA a few years ago. They wouldn't give me a reason. Obviously I was very upset and even chose to work in Canada for a couple of years rather than pursue EFL. However, I've now been teaching in Mexico for a year and having a fantastic time. Don't give up!

I am just saying that you can't be pessimistic about rejections. Accept them for what they are ( of course you have every right to be upset once you get that rejection ), but you have to understand that there are SO MANY OTHER SCHOOLS ( private - that could possibly pay more or be better than NOVA, AEON etc ) that would take you.
