Scheme? That sounds suspicious. I assume you mean "model" or is there something we should know about?! |
Sorry, I know this is late, but I wanted to jump in when I read this. "Scheme" is UK English for "program" or something similar. "Scheme" has the connotation of a suspicious or illegal activity in US English, but not in UK English. |

Hi Daina.
To this American your explanation makes sense, as they say you can learn something new all the time.

Hi all,
Just a follow up on my first teaching experience in Spain, having voluntraily transplanted myself from BsAs to Madrid. Were done with our intensive on Thursday, and so far I think my students are happy. Based on my first class in Madrid, Im afraid to say that if youre not too sure on grammar, then you better prepare, review, whatever, before teaching advanced students. They know so much grammar, its unbelievable. My Argentinian students were also good but these Spanish guys Im teaching are something else. As a whole, Im enjoying myself and yes, theres a lot of work in Madrid and thats great news for me.

i was happy with the job search help i received form ebc in madrid but being on a sabbatical, i don't have too much time for travelling so i thought why not move on and visit as many places as i can! i was wondering if any of you have tried the other locations?

Hi Susan,
I studied in their BsAs school and worked in Argentina for a year. Relocated to Madrid in August and I would suggest checking out Argentina. There are many similarities between the two countries and if you already speak Spanish and are on a sabbatical, I'd go for a country where you have the language edge. It's always easier to have fun when you speak the language of the city you're moving to. And if you're short on time, learning another language might just take a bit longer so you might as well do more EFL teaching in a Spanish speaking country . I had a great time in BsAs and I would recommend teaching there as well.

Hey shirley,
you seem to be having a great time in madrid, do you think january is a good time to start teaching in "la madre patria"? i'm planning to go to Madrid in January and I've found a one-way ticket for students on a student travel website. No problems entering Madrid on a one-way ticket? i guess teaching english in madrid won't be that different from teaching in bsas. i've already asked them at ebc to get started on the job search thing, received some emails but lots of them want to see me in january... got lots of questions, mind if i send you a pm?
chau.

don't worry about that , if they've got your resume and they've already contacted you, chances are they are interested, but you gotta be in town to receive the offer. i've recently moved in with 2 english teachers, we all do hours for one academy who works with it seems lots of govt contracts, and yes, we're non EU working on Spanish govt contracts! Ehem!
The three of us work for an academy that works with companies eligible for these funds from the Spanish govt. At the end of the month we fill out very official looking time sheets with the seal of the EU, so official looking. Ok, got it, just pulled out my time sheets - it says "Fondo Social Europeo, Fundacion Tripartita para la formacion en empleo". ) - Whatever that means, sounds good!
The consensus ..... there is work in madrid pretty much all year round. in fact the work is not limited to the popular months of Sept, Oct, Jan, Feb, they're now offering lots of work in March, April, May even through to the summer months. The academy told us that the govt contracts are spread out because of the funding, so courses are run 2,3, 4 months . funds are given again, another 2, 3, 4 months and in my opinion it all comes out to 1 year courses, same classes, same location, same everything! As long as we're working , I don't care how they give the classes.
So I guess you can come here anytime and there will be work, if you want we can meet up at EBC or you can also pm me. it would be nice to meet another transplanted almost portea in town. hasta luegito.
