Well actually, I have always been a loner/hermit outside of working hours. In fact, my social life in Oman is way more active than ever- effortlessly. What I am very aware of, though, is that expat "friendships" do not always run deep, and also that the cultural divide would overtake many of my local friendships if many of my, er, lifestyle choices were known. So while building strong social circles is a very good strategy, self-reliance will always be more so. Especially in my case, as apparently in yours, Duffy. I did enjoy your insights. |
