Another identity seems to be a good idea. It is a shame that we are unable to make annonymouse posts here. Infact that would be a good idea, if members had the option of making a post annonymous but the website was able to track the poster for purposes of e-mail and PM, and of course track the flamers. How about it Dave?

Why bother, just get another identity if you wish to make anonynmous posts. Who cares if employers read posts? If my employer wants to know what I think of him he only has to ask. Fear drives you nuts. Let 'em read.

Good point.

I personally like the idea that Chinese employers, uni students,or whomever read this forum. Get an uncensored perpective of their country and witness some pretty good political debate.

I say we should encourage more of our Chinese friends to read Dave's, if for no other reason than to find out what jonks calls his pu$$y!

It does matter when they dock a large percentage of your pay as a result of what they read on the forums!

The forums are read. I have had first-hand experience.

I completely agree with this poster. My current employer will never win a Nobel-prize for anything in the conduct department and they know that I feel that way. Let them read! I don't care. May be it will help increase their literacy level.

Have you ever had to face legal precedings or financial loss over anything mentioned in these forums?

I think, if you did, you would think differently on the subject,

Remember, that we are a relatively small communtity here, and we don't have this anonymous quality that you percieve us to have. Remember, this is a society for which spying on the interests of others is deep-rooted in the psychie(sic). Don't think for a minute, that the postings on this board go unnoticed. Don't think for a second that there are not reprecussions for what you write here.

What kind of reprecussions are you talking about? Has anyone faced legal procedings or financial loss over anything mentioned in these forums? Do you think the authorities actually care about what a bunch of foreign teachers think? I may be naive, but your post sounds a little paranoid to me.

If he doesn't , I have wasted a lot of posting time. I agree it really does not matter what we post here to FAO's, but some of it may help other FTs avoid bad situations. So the heck with retaliation.. Ye shall know the truth an the truth shall set you free.

not likely they do read them here in this small town China.
but if they do read it, they may be amused, impressed, bewildered or shocked by your comments, and some of the photos . sometimes i feel embarrassed to be in the forum when someone's looking over my shoulder.

Which leads me back to a previous topic, 'why not show your photo here?'
Now i understand the need to remain anonymous, and aphotoous. But for those of us who don't, and can't upload a photo ( because URL link could not be located, or size constraint), can you offer any help? i apologize for my ignorance.

I take everything with just a grain of salt. Employers have been known to go onto forums and make multiple posts claiming how great their schools are. I just caught a school last week doing it.

Paranoid? Yes. Naive? No.

All names removed, as I have moved on, and no longer hold a grudge.

Note. I had resigned and had my working visa cancelled before I wrote the offending items on eslcafe. I was on holiday in Thailand while I recieved this by email.

Don't search for the original thread. It has been removed

Re: Notice of pending libel action

Dear **********:

I am writing to inform you that your recent posts on the Internet concerning ****** School and using the pseudonym Plan B in the Job Discussion Forum of Daves ESL Caf, are subject to Chinese law concerning libel.

First, you clearly identified yourself in the Jan. 11 posting by stating that: you have inspired me sufficiently to walk into my principle's office with a renegotiated contract in one hand and my letter of resignation in the other.

Then you followed up with: As discussed, I had walked into my principles office with my letter of resignation in one hand and my revised contract in the other. As expected under the circumstances, I left with the letter of resignation on her desk.

In addition to attacks on my personal dignity in violation of Article 38 of the Constitution of the Peoples Republic of China; you, with malice aforethought, announced in a new posting on Jan. 22 that, ******** School in Zhuhai sacks ALL its teachers! That blatantly untrue statement was clearly meant to damage the reputation of ********* School, and already has resulted in one prospective new teaching turning down a contract offer.

Then you further convict yourself by first stating your intention to break your contract and later actually break it with lies, exaggerations, falsehoods and innuendo, to wit: "...The teacher may not do anything to damage the reputation of the school in the local or national community" (Plan B frantically starts thinking of methods to damage the reputation of the school in both the local and national community).

Effective immediately:
1. Your letter of resignation is rejected.
2. Your are summarily terminated without severance pay for violating the clause of the contract that states that you may not do anything to damage the reputation of the school.
3. Any payment due you by the school will be held in escrow until this matter is settled in court or until you make a new posting admitting your lies and apologizing for any damage done to the reputations of your former colleagues, to the reputation of continuing and new teachers, to my reputation and to the reputation of the school.
a) The apology should point out that:
i. Four teachers left the school simply because their contracts had expired and they were moving on.
ii. All teachers were given several months notice that the school expected teachers to be punctual, to prepare lesson plans, to behave more discreetly in public, to dress properly and to satisfy their students, etc. but you refused to do so.
iii. The school gave verbal warnings, written warnings and, in cases of gross misconduct, placed teachers back on probation during the past year for breaches of contract. It was only these teachers who, being unwilling or unable to take corrective action, were offered the opportunity to resign prior to Spring Festival.
iv. That you greatly downplayed the misbehavior of certain teachers and grossly exaggerated what you present as wrongdoing by the school.

Your public retraction, admission and apologies must be made within two days.

Sincerely,

************
Principal

Shanghai Normal FAO reads Dave's regularly.

That could explain the disappearence of one of my posts from last year.
Not sure if my employer reads here. A coworker does. I dont really have any complaints about my employer though. I think if I wanted to post specefic details about job dissatisfaction I would probably come up with another identity to do that with.

Nobody but the poster himself/herself, one of the MOD's, or Dave himself can delete posts.

If you are worried about your employer reading Dave's, then don't mention the name of the school until you've left, or try not to be too specific with details like telling people on which day at what time you walked into whose office and what you did to that person's what. That seems to be the logical and simplest thing to do.
