I think it's the chinese indocturation and they can't think for
themselves. |
Hmmm.....so let me check the theory here, the students are 9-13, the lesson as described goes something like this:
Write some names of countries on the board.
Point to them on the map.
Drill.
Ask students to repeat the structure.
The students were disinterested and unresponsive. Obvious explanation: The students lack the necessary creativity and ability to 'think outside the box' to handle such an innovative and exciting lesson, dazzled as they were by the bright light of western creativity exemplified by this lesson.
Here's a suggestion, how about instead of using the time you currently spend thinking up theories of cultural inferiority to explain why your lessons bomb, spending that time on actually learning how to teach? |

Dandan,
Hmm, well, you're a bit off.
We went over all the countries and cities and where they were on the map. Did some drills so that they could practise the speaking. only for a couple of minutes, then did other thing.
Then we did finding the country on the map while they were blind-folded, Tied countires into nationalities and likes and dislikes, Did country X with do you like Chinese food, etc, Did interviews in full-role play style, colored worksheets of countries, and more.
I've taken classes on how to teach. Got the degree and Diploma to prove it. And do think up creative things. Maybe you've got tons of time on your hands, but I can't spend too much time, as I'm at school from 8 in the morning until 9 at night. I'm shattered. I'm working 8 hours a day of just teaching and I've got other duties at the school as well.
Instead of telling people how horrible their lessons are, when you don't even know what I did, why don't you offer advise.
Didn't your mother teach you, if you can say something nice, don't say it at all?!?! |

So if you just want advice, why don't you just post asking for advice and drop the offensive krapp about how it's all your students' fault for being dumb Chinese, or doesn't your mother's advice apply to you? |

dandan...ease up.
The idea of the lesson isn't bad...just the execution is flawed. buy a few maps, make the students push their desks to the back of the room and get on the floor. Put the maps on the floor(if they are on the desks they last 5 minutes.
Put them in evenly sized groups, then explain that the group that finds a country starting with the letter you write on the board gets the point. You must write the country down under their group.
To get the point the team cannot duplicate another teams answers, so you are getting them to look and compare the words on the board with the ones on the map. They learn quick this way.(expect to get a lot of wierd answers ie.Atlantic Ocean is for A)
Once that game is mastered, you can have them race to find specific countries.
Once they master that...then try to put the sentences together.
After that you can start you own Jr. Travel Agency. |
