David, I got the impression it would be a few weeks, but not as long as a month. They weren't very specific. I think they had lots of interviews lined up.

Hi SandyMan
Yes -lots! The phone interviews are last - "early July". So I think by mid-July decisions will be made. |

Hello everyone
I have an interview next week and have to give a 10 minute presentation on "why you are the right person for the job".
I know i am the right person , but as i get incredibly nervous at interviews and tend to waffle any tips would be great. This is my first interview in about 10 years so don't want to blow it.
All and any tips or advice would be greatly and appreciatively received.
Thanks |

Hi Aliskander,
To have clear points to follow really helps me, e.g.
1. Why my qualifications make me the right person
2. Why my teaching experience makes me the right person
3. Why my experience in the ME makes me the right person
etc.
Also, I find it useful to prepare by thinking of specific class room experiences I've had that would illustrate a particular point I want to make, e.g. "When I taught a skills lesson on invoicing to an upper intermediate group in Lebanon with a particular focus on collocations (issue/pay + invoice, arrange/do + bank transfer)". Then I would just jot down "Invoicing in Lebanon" in my notes to jog my memory - and use it if, for example, approaches to lexical work came up in the interview.
It's a fairly time consuming way of preparing for an interview, but I think you'll come across as focused if you can give specific and personal examples that are relevant when you get asked questions (I went through all types of class-room scenarios in my mind during a five-hour flight for an interview a few years ago - it might even beat the in-flight entertainment, depending on what airline you fly with!).
When I did this interview, I was given the option of standing up and using a flip chart (which I didn't) and I think some people find jotting down main points with a marker pen a great help against waffling.
Good luck with the interview!

Hello Sandyman
Thanks for such a quick reply and some lovely tips and advice.
Obviously all interviews are important, but as anyone who knows me knows, this is a particularly important interview for me, so i am very nervous and want to do well and portray myself in the right light. I have already chosen what to wear (about a week ago!) to make sure it is a dark colour and does not show my under arm nervousness!!
I have a flip chart and will prepare some headline words, but as you say, will decide on the day whether to use it or not.
Thanks for your great help.

Even most small villages in Oman have at least an Indian eatery, so I think you can assume that Ibri will have such - probably even more than one.
You will want to buy a car though... preferably a 4WD... lots of places to go and things to see off the beaten track in Oman.

Indian eateries are one thing you are unlikely ever to be short of in any Omani town! In fact, it is surprising to see how much of this country runs on Indian fuel. What you might be harder pressed for, is Arabic food. The first restaurant specialising in Arabic food recently opened in my town, and they were absolutely inundated. Best of luck in Ibri. |

So, who's working in the Colleges in Oman for CfBT now and how do you find the conditions? Interested in hearing from those who will start teaching this Saturday and those who have been there a while. |
