Here's a pretty good FAQ on RCE discs... There are definitely workarounds.

Oh yeah, and also -- here is another SIMPLE workaround for RCE... If you have a standalone player where you can freely select the region, (on a PC with region workarounds already implemented, RCE is a joke anyway) just don't select "Region 0" but rather, the region for which the disc is intended. |

No, you don't. Admittingly, Flying Pig is useful for those who live unreasonably far from any Costco, but you REALLY pay dearly for the service...
A while back, my wife and I made a Costco run, (when we do, we invite friends to come along with us or take their orders if they need anything)... One of our friends gave us her list, complete with prices, as taken from the Flying Pig website. She was very surprised (pleasantly) that we presented her with a bill that was OVER 2,000 yen lower than what she was expecting to pay... The markup on Flying Pig products is quite high, IMO.... |
Jim, I think flying pig is used by many who live far away from the Costcos. It's not an either/or. Costco is over 3 hrs away. So 2000 yen is nothing because I compare it to the Japanese supermarkets. My savings is probably about 8-10,000 yen/order and more importantly I can get things that are unavailable around here. |

I was looking at the flying pig website and it certainly did not look cheap. I will be in Sendai and there is no Costco I think the nearest one is in Chiba which I believe is about an hour away by train.
Doesn't seem practical to head out there unless I can find someone with a car.
Oh well. |
