Red dog, I know what you mean.

The 'take my advice or bad stuff will happen' argument does make people sit up and listen
...it's hard to ignore.

But, if the person using this argument doesn't know you or your boss, and has little, or no,
first-hand knowledge about the particular situation you're going into, then how can they be sure your boss
will fire your butt in 5 minutes flat if you don't take their advice? More often than not, they're just
guessing, or trying to impose their own beliefs on your situation.

Good post, OP, but the things you point out are hardly limited to this forum. Perhaps we should expect better of the forum as presumably everyone has a university degree, but....

To be honest, though, I haven't noticed a huge problem.
