First of all I didn't even notice or pay full attention to the post as I wrote while very upset and as I noted in the posting excuse the mistakes. Is it really a requirement of this community to bad mouth and crap on others. My goodness what a boring life. Anyway I have corrected my mistake. God forgive me for not being perfect.

I think you forgot a lot of commas in that last post.
You will have to get used to that sort of thing if you want to hang with English teachers, I guess. It is not a matter of having a boring life. It is merely a matter of taking their professions seriously and, I am sure you would want your students to respect you. That sort of respect doesn't necessarily come from knowing all the answers, but trying to be your best. And not making lame excuses or getting upset when you fail. And above all, not bluffing your way through the complexities. That might work occasionally with students of course but never here. I don't think the mistakes were the problem, though. I think it was your wrong information-which I see you wisely deleted- followed by the "Let's have fun. Who cares?" (I have seen worse mistakes so don't take it personal.)
So how ARE the visas coming along? Everything complete, yet? Good luck.
P.S. God told me he forgives you. |

I believe the correct form involves an adverb, e.g., don't take it PERSONALLY, but don't take it personally.
Like Caterina, I'm also in a serious holding pattern for a work visa, mostly spent circling the restaurants, coffee shops, and beaches of Sydney, so it's not too bad, but, man, I do wish the paperwork would come through. |

| I thought "don't take it personal" was an acceptable alternative in American English. I'm British by the way, but is it? |

That's me.. um a certain class of person. Mikana, I believe you are correct actually. Thanks for catching that.
By the way, Caterina, thanks for the kind words. Did you get my PM? This is a perfect example of what I meant. |

I'm a "certain class of person" too, which fact was pointed out to me by my former father-in-law, a Park Avenue/Georgetown American who took me into the library one evening, poured me a shot of Laphroiag and told me that pronouncing "etcetera" as "ekcetera" made me seem, er, rather common. Point taken for eternity. |

Got it. I see what you mean. I wanted to ask, does anyone know if I actually have to wait for the work visa from here in the US? ( which is what Fatih University officals keep telling me). I'm thinking that because I'm married to a Turkish citizen I could apply for a residence permit thru marriage and then the work permit. Anyone know about this? |

| Sheesh, I can see why it was a "former" father-in-law!! At least, he had the decency to give you a painkiller first before making a remark like that. |

It did rather dampen my enthusiasm for marriage above my station, but the divorce settlement was worth the humiliation.
But where's my @$#%^& work visa? |

A couple of friends are married to Turkish citizens and they apply yearly for a residence permit.
It costs around 500ytl and hours of blood, sweat and tears queuing up at the black hole of bureacracy in Aksaray. But they're Europeans, not sure if the situation is different for North Americans.. |

| Thanks lovelace. However the RES. Permit doesn't give you ability to work is that correct? I'm also confused as to why you have to apply from your home country? In the US my husband didn't have to go back to Turkey to get his working permit that was part of his applying for residency (he doesn't want citizenship). This seems so strange to me if you are for example married and living in Turkey why do you have to return back to your home country to apply? My God, its not like a H1 visa or something. YUG. |

The YOK has arrived ... now let's begin the war with the Embassy. Wish me luck today, I'm off to get the work visa stamp. (Inshallah).
Note to self: Bring as many passport photos as possible. Big smile, deep breath, be ready to beg. |
