Qatar Petroleum, or QP, are the Arab world's version of the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin.

They hire you, they fire you, they hire you, they fire you.

One purge after another.

You are safe and "golden" one day, then "disgraced" and booted out of the country the next.

No-one in their right minds wants a direct, or indirect hire with this mob.

And that's all true - the first purge happened, a second mini purge has happened and the third is on its way.

Yet another purge? Are they getting rid of a bunch of Edgewater teachers now?

Wow. Hire, fire, hire, fire. Just exactly what kind of megalomaniacs are in charge at QP?? What a horrible company!

Well, QP was what it was.. absolute crap. Crap admin, crap students, crap in house "Power English" stuff. Most of it was originating from the various ethnic mafias. Still, it was a job to get another job with. I'm glad I'm out of there and I can't say I look back on it with fondness. With all the shenanigans going on there, the place is prime for an industrial accident.

It really does have the worst reputation in K-tar. QU comes a close second.

Too true. I am an ex-Gulager and the machinations and perambulations of QP HR are legendary. The latest is that QP reserves the right to vet any of Mal's prospective candidates (well a not a few duds have been hired and periodically fired for foolish things such as not heeding a student's or colleague's warning that they are going to get you. One teacher was fired for daring to complain that her office-mate put what she called offensive notices of a proseltyzing nature on the office door. She was dismissed within 28 hours. The vetting implies that Mal is not a good judgement of character. Well he can't be held responsible for some of the misfits as they didn't show their true colors until well and truly entrenched.

They could have a really good team if they kept the decent teachers, instead of firing everyone and getting a mixed bag every few months.

I don't think this is much of a QP policy as it is a CYA policy amongst the various "managers" and "Senior Instructors" who don't even have as much as a TEFL. They can hire people they feel "won't be a threat". Totally Criminal, like the one manager in CTI who was busted for embezzlement but because he'd been a tutor to one o the Al-tTanis, he got pardoned. I shudder to think what would happen if QP ever actually vetted their long-term permanent hire employees.

I assume the notices must have been proselytizing for the religion followed by the locals, rather than for any other religion. Well, the audacity of not wanting to read about the faith on a daily basis! Laughing

For the most part, you either have to be a skilled survivor, a mafia cadre, a lackey, or just extremely lucky at evading termination, to stay long term in a job at QP. Being a good teacher has absolutely nothing to do with it. They wouldn't know good HR practice if it came up and bit them on the backside. When I was in QP even my Qatari students complained about how devoid of professionalism the company is. It's a complete mess all-round, really.
