Unfortunately, and this pains me to say it, but I really don't believe you will be fine (when you go, erm....down Rolling Eyes ). I applaud your tenacity and desire to research. However, I have been reading your posts since you joined us here at Dave's Taiwan, and I can't help but feeling you may be a little young and quite possibly under-qualified for work here. What I am afraid will most likely happen is you will arrive here, experience the experience that is ESL in Taiwan(it really is the same for all of us) and fold faster than Superman on laundry day. You are going to leave some school in the lurch and further sully (some of) our fragile reputations.

I don't say this to be mean. Maybe a little sarcastic, but please see thru that and consider the heart of my message to you. In my personal opinion, I don't think you are ready for Taiwan. Your financial situation, lack of adequate language skills and maturity level seem to indicate that you will have too tough a go of it.

May I suggest applying to language schools in whichever Canadian city you are at? I believe your qualifications meet their needs. However, I am sure your skills do not. In making applications to some local language institutes, you can better gauge how employable you would be over here.

I am not trying to discourage you. Only you can make the decision to come. Nothing would give me more satisfaction than for you to prove me wrong. It's just that I am more than liklely right.

Good luck to you whatever you do.

And to the OP. I wouldn't try it. Not with a wife and kid in tow. But if you are really that curious, why not come over by yourself and check it out first. If you can land a job, and can work out the details, then send for your family.

Good luck to you too.

I would say that Toe has hit the nail on the head with this post. Yes it would be an awesome experience to come here. But after reading your post about being an Asian-Canadian, and considering your finances, not to mention the other points Toe has made you would be coming over here with some serious hurdles to clear. The lack of money is going to make it hard to live, and being of Asian decent it will make it harder for you to find that job quickly that you will desperatly need to suppliment your income. This will put you through some serious hardship if you cant handle the stress, you will probably be on a flight back home within a month or two. As Toe said, it will shed bad light on those of us who are more serious about the job.

Please dont take this as sarcasm, or rudeness, this is genuine concern. Smile
